Another thought: one of the "values" mentioned above is tolerance.
I am not tolerant. I do not tolerate other cultures. I enjoy them, I am interested in them, I welcome them. But I do not tolerate them.
To tolerate is to put up with something that you dislike.
My brother-in-law is of a different culture to me. I do not tolerate him. I like him.
There are many countries that will not tolerate any sort of dissent. Not so Britain.
But you were talking about yourself, so Crowan, can you truthfully say that you "like, welcome and enjoy" religion? Or do you just tolerate it - or not - as the case may be? 😉
It's OK, I don't want a reply - just making a little observation.

Mostly I ignore them.
Talking about tolerance...
Tolerance as a value? British score pretty high.
'Tolerance' is fundamentally flawed for inherently it implies a certain distance. Tolerance keeps mine-thine in place
When one tolerates someone, something, eventually a saturation point comes, a tipping point where intolerance begins to creep in. Which seems to be happening at the moment.
But compared to some other parts of the world and some other cultures it is damn sight better than intolerance. At least it does not stifle as much on the surface. But it is not without its problems. Underneath, overtime it stifles the tolerant side and the tolerated sides too in some measures.
heart- connection is what we aspire to which is an opening of heart. In a perfect world nothing less than heart relating should do but Until then tolerance gets the prize.
(Not talking about individuals liking individuals or extended family members of other cultures or odd bigots hating them. We are talking about society on the whole.)
Different people coming together to share the same space. Being in same space demands that we share similar common values. Tolerance is essentially a mutual process. Staying open to each other.
I distrust Gove because of things that Gove has said and done. Not all politicians are untrustworthy. Some are good people.
Agree, 100%
