I had the opportunity to take Reiki with William Lee Rand last week. He talked about his life his journey how he got into Reiki and everyone he studied with.

He addressed the trademark thing. When Takata brought Reiki to the west she didn't let people write down the symbols, so over the years people changed them because they forgot how to draw them. The trademark is in place for those who want to be a part of ICRT and keep everything the way it was intended to be taught. Some might disagree with what that means exactly and that's okay. Personally I like what he has done with reiki and I'm happy he did what he did.

I'm happy to have met him in person and take a class directly with him. I feel confidant William Lee Rand is an egoless person. He is a kind soul who lives his life for Reiki and healing. I applaud him for doing what he can to keep a direct strong lineage. He's an amazing man and has the karma for what he's doing. Everyone should take a class from him if they can. Life changing experience. I love that man.

Are your assumptions of belief system ( karma, being 'egoless') part of Reiki or part of your personal belief system that comes from elsewhere?

William has let his ego of from what I can see through my Nyimgma Buddhist eyes. With that being being said I realize as humans being we do have ego, and it's always finding a way to sneak in. But William doesn't show it in his Reiki classes. Suggesting he has the karma to do this work, well he does because he doing it. Did that answer your question?

Not really. I'm not questioning the state of his ego - which is actually nothing to do with me - I was interested in whether you see 'egoless-ness' and 'karma' as being intrinsic parts of Reiki or whether you have incorporated them from other practices.
I guess, by your mention of Buddhism, that it is the latter. Is that so?

Yes you're correct.

I know absolutely nothing about Reiki, but if it works it has to be following a form of scientific law. (Divine or natural)
There are many ways to demonstrate these sciences so if one person develops a certain technique then they must have the right to claim credit for it even to giving it a title. This does not however give them the right to claim title to science itself or prohibit others from devising their own individual way to demonstrate the science. To allow someone to have a domain name of Reiki seem to me a step too far.
