Hi - Some 7 months ago I visited a Psychic for a reading during which she stated I should learn to 'Heal' and that I was 'Spiritual, should find out about / study Chakra, use Healing Stones and Spiritual Healing'.
Since then I have read about Spiritual Healing and have attended a Meditation session at a Spiritualist Church - but nothing more.
I now feel very drawn to Reiki - I don't know why though.
I can place my hands over a part of a person's body and feel intense heat transmitting between both of us. I have done this a few times to several different people. This all sounds weird to me and I am just asking - what on earth do I do next?
I don't just want to 'jump in' and pay my money to anyone. How do I find the right person to teach me?
Reading this back, it sounds a bit stupid, but I hope someone can come up with an answer.
Thanks
No, it doesn't sound stupid. I have heard it said that Reiki finds you and not the other way around!
I was VERY sceptical when I first heard about it. I kept asking questions of the people I knew and then met someone who was a Reiki master (wasn't looking for that) but after talking some more and thinking about it I decided to do Reiki I. A year later I did Reiki II.
There are some very good books around about Reiki. Penelope Quest's "Reiki for Life" is excellent, I have another called "Healing Reiki" by Eleanor McKenzie which I found was a better one to begin with.
Ask the questions, read about it and you'll know if it's for you.
Good luck!
Welcome to HP MrBlue,
There is nothing silly about your post. You have offered a little about yourself, and requested help. There are plenty members of this forum who are Reiki practitioners, mediums or energy therapist. I see you are in the East Lancashire area. Many Reiki shares are for people who have been attuned. I do not know how far away from Manchester you are but there is a Reiki Master who runs open Reiki shares. You do not have to have been attuned to Reiki to attend but you could gain more information should you wish to attend his meetings, then you can decide if you want to take it further. If you want to PM me I can give you his details.

Eeee, if I had 10 bob for the amount of times I've heard someone tell me that (I ran out of fingers to count it on). No offence intended, but it seems that lately, many tarot readers or psychics are telling people that they are naturally talented at healing and should look into it. In a way, it's true, we're all capable of doing spiritual healing or Reiki or some such thing, it's just a case of if we feel ready for it. 😉

As others have said, there's nothing stupid about the question, we all start from somewhere.
I would start by looking up local Reiki masters (some are listed in the Healthypages Directory or search the internet) then phone them up and speak to them about Reiki, Learning Reiki, how long they've been doing it, how much they practice it themselves and on clients, what style of Reiki they do (there's over 150 versions now some of which are not really classed as Reiki per se so it's good to know what they offer), how much it costs to learn etc. When you find someone who you feel good about and you're happy with what they have to offer, go and have a Reiki treatment from them and site and talk to them in person to ensure that you are comfortable with how they will teach Reiki.
Once you've done that, you've found yourself a Reiki Master. 😉

As Anneka001 said happened to her, I too met a Reiki master (without intending to!), and because of him I decided to take Reiki First Degree, 9 weeks ago (and counting! still going through a 'healing crisis'! although this may not happen for you). The right Reiki master will be there for you (I chose two Masters who work together - we chat like we've known each other for years! 🙂 ).
I definitely know I've done the right thing, as I'm a lot calmer for being attuned to Reiki!! I also have certain physical signs that Reiki is working for me (that is, apart from the healing crisis! I just have to be patient with that!). I have been practising Reiki on family and friends - it's amazing how people change even after just one session.
There is an association and and a federation for Reiki (am I allowed to post this?) who can provide details of training Masters (I chose from the federation). Healthypages members have also been really kind and helpful to me, so I consider myself really lucky with my Reiki experience so far. I'll be taking Reiki Stage II in March, and am really looking forward to it. Good luck on beginning your Reiki journey! If you'd like to PM me for advice please do so.
Thanks for the comments and information.
I'm looking into this further.
Thanks 'fleur' for the information.

Hi Ian
It sounds like you can already heal, so I am not really sure you are going to get very much out of a Reiki course, there are places on the net where they give free Reiki and other free attunements and instructions to various modalities.
Going for a treatment is a good idea, as it lets you know if you are compatible with that form of energy work, going to a share is also a very good idea as you will be able to sense the different forms that people could bring to the circle.
Just follow your intuition and be discerning in your choices, it is your journey and you have to take responsibility for your choices 🙂
I am very interested in Reiki but want to find a Master in the West Yorkshire area. I would like to go on recommendation really...and would like some advice as to what the different Reiki teachings are about and which is the best to learn? I understand about asking about lineage in a teacher and how that is relevant but I have seen two lots of lineage for one person. Are the other "types" of Reiki add ons to a main teaching?
Sorry if I am being completely thick here...

Hello Indi and welcome to Healthypages 🙂
May I suggest that you have a look through some previous threads in this forum. You can narrow things down to your specific questions by using the Search facility on keywords like eg 'lineage', and I'm sure you'll find lots to interest you.
Two lots of lineage for one person simply means that, for whatever reasons, the person has been attuned twice, by different Reiki Masters.
Enjoy!

or that they were attuned to different levels of Reiki by different Reiki Masters.
I myself did my Reiki I and II with one Master but my Reiki III with another. 😉
As for the different types of Reiki that's something that has been discussed many times before, but it's ok to ask again.
A good place to start is to get hold of a copy of Reiki for Life by Penelope Quest and also The Reiki Sourcebook by Frans and Bronwen Steine.
These both talk about what Reiki is from a fairly unbiased point of view and the latter also gives information about some of the different lineages and the differences between them.
It really comes down to what you are looking for from Reiki. Some people are looking for an Egyptian connection and will go for things like SKHM or Seichim etc. whilst others go for a more 'new age' type of Reiki, involving Chakras and Kundalini energies etc. which are not part of the original Japanese Usui Reiki. Some go really 'far out' and do things like Dolphin Reiki (yes it does exist) which is said to have been given to us by Dolphins, but many also seek to do Reiki in the purest form they can find which, to many, is to do it as closely to how Usui sensei taught it in Japan.
So you need to do a little research into the different forms of Reiki, look at your own beliefs currently and decide which form of Reiki suits you. Then look for a Reiki master who teaches that form, speak to them, have a treatment from them and talk about learning it and, when you are happy that they are the person for you, go for it. If they feel like the right person then distance will not normally be an issue as you may limit your choices somewhat by only looking locally. Of course this also depends on your own circumstances and ability to learn somewhere that is not local.
Let us know how you get on in your search and feel free to ask more questions if you wish.

Thanks - I think i just needed a bit of direction. I will let you know how it goes.
