Hi

i took my reiki master / teachers recently from a reiki master who said they could teach i was given the information, training, and symbols to teach but i have just noticed on my certificate it has just master although my master is a member of the reiki fed he is down on there as a master not master teacher

But he says he can teach as it is Shiki Ryoho reiki

Should i retake my master teacher course?

I have successfully given several attunements but i am worried about the changes happening with self regs etc

any advise

Firstly, you should speak to your Reiki Master about this if you are concerned.

Secondly...

Not all schools of Reiki teach seperate Master and Master/Teacher qualifications. There are many that teach it all as "Master" (as mine was). After all, what is a teacher but someone who is skilled at passing on their knowledge and understanding of the subject they have Mastered.

For the Reiki Voluntary Regulations, I wouldn't concern yourself too much at the present time as they seem to be a bit up in the air at the minute as to how it's going to proceed. Obviously the Reiki Fed. have their "requirements" in order to be a member and to call yourself a Master/Teacher in their book, but the proposals put forward by the RRWG for voluntary regulation only seemed to stipulate that a person needed to be able to show they had a lineage that went back to Usui sensei in order to be able to join the regulatory body as a Reiki practitioner. If you have qualified as a Master or Master/Teacher with such a lineage then it shouldn't be a problem as far as I can tell.

I have done that he believes reiki should only be taught outside of colleges, not interested in the politics etc

just said the part about -But he says he can teach as it is Shiki Ryoho reiki -

I just want to be able to pass do the attunements, certificate and do my work honestly making sure all the t's are crossed and the i's dotted

Well there's nothing wrong with Reiki being taught inside colleges, it just means that the teachings structure is different to traditional reiki teachings and some teachers at colleges tend to include a lot of "filler" material to pad the course out for the college e.g. teaching about chakras and crystal healing etc. which, as you know, is nothing to do with Reiki per se.

There's no reason why your master can't teach Reiki if he has been attuned as a master and has been taught how to give attunements. He doesn't really need an additional "teacher" certificate to show that and may not even be able to get a "teacher" certificate through the lineage of teachings from his master who likewise may just teach master and master/teacher as one thing.

If you have been attuned yourself to master level and you have been taught how to give attunements then you too are a master teacher. If you feel you have enough experience, knowledge and confidence of Reiki to pass that on to others then you are doing everything right.

It's only if you really really want to join some association such as the Reiki Fed. that you will have to ensure you meet their criteria (whatever that is) and then you should be asking yourself what you get back from them and whether it is worth the extra paperwork/cost to meet those requirements. Everyone is different and different things will suit different people. You should go with what you feel is right for you.

thank you very much for your advise it helps me a lot

I think the fact that so many people i know are being refused insurance (if they have insurance with their association) they do multiple therapies but unless they do a course for reiki that is accredited to their association they can not get insured for it

i have mine seperate from my association (but they did accept it a long time ago before the changes)

I think some honest, hardworking therapists are getting confused with all the changes and the moving of criteria from their associations - most of the questions i get asked is will my reiki be accepted by their insurance company/association the truth is sometimes no.

This i think is what is pushing many to teach in colleges etc

Once again thanks

I can't really think many enlightened energy workers will be concerned as to if any narrow minded bureaucrats approve of them or what method of training they undertook, the proof of the pudding is as alway in the eating, not in the presentation 😉

I know what you mean, and that can be one of the problems with joining associations. You think you can get cheaper insurance through them (which you can) but in order to do that you often have to incur additional training costs in order to get yourself up to their exacting standards. That isn't to say that people shouldn't work to standards, but some of these associations like to tell you exactly what you should believe rather than how to practice professionally.

It's perfectly possible and easy to get insurance without being a member of an association. It may appear a little more expensive, but is it? 😉

I'm trained as a Reiki Master in Usui Shiki Ryoho and there is no seperation between master and teacher in terms of training, initiations or qualifications. So if your Reiki Master is trained in this and has a lineage which is Usui, Hayashi, Takata, Lei Furumoto and so on then as a Master he is indeed qualified to teach and as his student so are you.
