Hi newbeginnings,

You could start again now, perhaps practice on a few friends and family and see if you can put aside some time each day to practice, even if just 15-20 mins whilst baby is asleep. Also, a good idea is to see if there is a reiki share near you that you could attend to get some more experience and practice and have a chat with the others there.

Have a chat with your reiki master and see what they suggest too. He or she may organise reiki shares or might be happy to spend some time with you as a refresher. This is what I would do for my students.

Sx

Congratulations on the new baby, NewB!

The purpose of Reiki is the development of the self and you don't need any further training to do that. Use the energy for self-healing and it will get clearer and more effective.

The ability to allow healing for others comes as a side effect of your own development. Just caring for your baby will guide you in how the energy begins to flow when necessary.

Spend as much time as you can, not in routines or formal hand positions, but with your hand on your tum or your heart or anywhere. In the car, on the bus, while watching television, simply any time your hand isn't doing something else. By allowing the energy to flow often and without your direction you will discover that it becomes more and more effective--and it doesn't take 'practice' or dedicated time apart from real life. =)

Discover the joy of being the energy! Love for that journey. . .

I think it's important to add: Make sure you connect to the energy first otherwise there is the possibility you will channel your own Ki instead of external energy. I don't know about other types of Reiki or energy healing, but there is much more to Usui Reiki than putting your hand on some part of your body.

Actually, I think there is far less to Usui Reiki than we are taught. It is much more a way of life than a process or ceremony.

And if you are always connected to the energy you don't have to turn it off or on. Just BE!

Yes Usui Reiki is a way of life, but within that there are specific teachings and techniques that define Usui Reiki. Take these away and it is no longer Usui Reiki.

I wonder, if Usui were here to enter this discussion, if his emphasis would still be on self-development or instead on imitation?

I have been wondering about that, whether that sometimes happens. How can you be sure it's coming from "above" rather than from yourself? What's the best Usui way to connect to the energy?

Kind of hard to say really, I can't actually see the connection between self-development and imitation in the context of this thread. If I had to hazard a guess I would suggest his focus would be on the continued correct teaching of his system in the way he has always taught it - with love, humility and discipline. A bit like a 70 year old Okinawan Karate master I saw on Discovery the other day. He still practices Karate exactly as it has been practised since his childhood - with no modifications to the training methods or techniques. That is pretty much the Japanese way. That may not fit with our modern Western mentality where everything has to be 'now' and 'easy' and 'my way', but hey, Usui Reiki is after all a Japanese system.

I didn’t intend that this would be a debate of right and wrong, correct and incorrect, but rather a discussion of the purpose of Reiki. :038:

My question of what Usui would now emphasize comes from the fact that it is a different world to when he lived. We know more about different cultures and are able to choose from the different offerings for our own development.

I truly wonder if he would choose the traditional Japanese ceremonies or if his approach would be softer and include differing ways of growth. (And BTW, self-development is never 'easy'!) I assume you are not Japanese, yet you have chosen to adopt a part of the Japanese culture for your pathway.

There are purists in all aspects of science, philosophy, religion, and para-psychology. There are also those whose thinking causes them to venture in a new direction. As a classroom teacher, I never teach exactly the same way twice, knowing that each student and each group of students has a different background and different needs. I make it my goal to adapt to current conditions.

In the end, it is newbeginnings who will decide which direction is appropriate for her. I simply want to provide one answer to the question she has posed. :nature-smiley-008:

What's the best Usui way to connect to the energy?

I will pm you the details for level 1 healing technique. It changes at level 2, but this is pretty much the way to work at level 1.

Choosing to draw from a variety of sources for spiritual growth is a good thing, but it does not change what Usui Reiki is - a Japanese art that has specific teachings.

I truly wonder if he would choose the traditional Japanese ceremonies or if his approach would be softer and include differing ways of growth. (And BTW, self-development is never 'easy'!) I assume you are not Japanese, yet you have chosen to adopt a part of the Japanese culture for your pathway.

Looking at Japanese masters in other disciplines, there seems to be tendency to stick with the traditional ways. This can be seen from martial arts to sword smiths... etc. You are right, I am not Japanese, but I have chosen to learn a Japanese art, therefore I will follow the teachings of my chosen art to the best of my ability and I will strive for the perfection in that art which is a cornerstone of teaching in all Japanese arts.

I never teach exactly the same way twice, knowing that each student and each group of students has a different background and different needs. I make it my goal to adapt to current conditions.

That is a good way to teach, but I would imagine even though you change the way you teach a subject, the actual subject you teach stays the same.

You're very welcome. I guess sharing knowledge is one of the good things about forums.

Hmmm I was quite interested in seeing your answer to this.
