Hi

Wondered if I could have some feedback as I'm fairly new to energy healing. It happens to me quite often during a treatment session were I get a pain and I usually take it that I'm being shown were to direct the healing. In most cases, this is where the client has problem. But last night I got pains in my shoulders and neck and directed healing there. My client says she does not have pains in her neck and shoulders but I have pains in my neck. They definitely felt like her pains and not mine as they were in a different place. Today she has reported back to me that her shoulders are sore and painful. This has happened to me before where I felt some-one had shoulder problems and they said they did not but during the session they did.

Has anyone experienced getting or giving some-one else's ailments? As I'm a bit concerned that this may have happened.

I always protect myself before the session and ask for healing for the highest good of all.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Carmer

Hi Carmer

has never happened to me but I believe it can happen - on my shiatsu training course one of the other students told us that on a day she did 2 treatments she started off feeling fine but the 1st guy had a headache- by the end of the treatment she had it too but soldiered on to do treatment number 2 as agreed - then that person had one too....

I think myself that the way to avoid this is to have a definite sense of separation between yourself and your client to begin with, centre yourself and acknowledge how you are feeling (spiritually- emotionally-intellectually- physically), then check in with them - and at the end of the treatment once more separate yourself, ground yourself separate from them. Actually make a bit of a ritual out of it - "this me, and that is you." Some sort of connection occurs during a treatment, so it is important to make sure you're clear who's whose and what's what before and after so you don't carry other people's stuff away with you. Some people like to wash their hands after every treatment- I don't think that's necessary. But certainly to treat and do the highest good effectively on a regular basis you need a sort of healthy selfishness IMO

You want to know if you pass on your aches and pains while giving Reiki.

The answer, of course, is yes. . . but it is so much more than that! (You wouldn’t have asked the question if you did not already know in your heart!) The answer is that in sharing who and what we are with another we must be willing and able to share all that we are. We do not just share what we think we want with them but everything!

The miracle is that when we are totally connected, when we are in the oneness, then we allow the aches and pains to dissipate. If we hold anything back, if we do not open ourselves totally, then the entirety of the clearing cannot happen. If we try to determine the outcome, or hold a part of us as separate, or in any way keep ourselves from being wholly involved, then the flow of energy is narrowed or limited.

We do not DO healing, we ARE healing and must be willing to be totally and completely a part of the other. Otherwise, we limit the possibilities!

Not only that, we may (we do) contaminate the true healing with an imitation or with our own limitations, known and unknown.

That's quite a commitment! It's not to be entered into lightly, but if we do not give all, we do the other a disservice. It’s the difference between blowing up a balloon for them or riding in a hot air balloon with them.

This is why we heal the self first and why we heal the self constantly. It is a matter of purity.

It is more significant than just sharing a headache or a pain in the shoulder. It also explains why some people are totally unwilling to share in such an experience out of fear of the consequences! Some fear what they do not know; others fear what they do know deep in their soul.

Yes yes yes!

We do not DO healing, we ARE healing and must be willing to be totally and completely a part of the other. Otherwise, we limit the possibilities!

That means that the "healer" and "receiver" can be healed simultaneously.

This the energy of creation without any limitations!

Just as this says....like

riding in a hot air balloon with them.

Glorious!

My answer to the original question is you cannot pass on your aches and pains while giving Reiki. Reiki can only work for good.

In my experience you can pass on your issues while giving other forms of healing, which is why I prefer working with Reiki because it is its own protection.

I'm aware that my views are not held by everyone but they work for me!

When I notice an ache or pain while giving Reiki, it's either telling me of a past injury or one that is in the energy field which will work its way into the physical body at some stage in the near future. It sounds very much like that is what happened to you - you picked up an injury at a nascent stage. Be grateful for this form of mediumship!

Thanks for your valid points

Thank you everyone for your reply's. Flit - loved your quotes

I am relieved to hear that the majority don't believe you can give something negative to some-one else.

I now believe that I did not pass on anything and her aching was her own body healing her - brought on by the Reiki. It just so happens that I have a bad neck and shoulder and she had something wrong with her shoulder which I believe the Reiki brought out. Anyway hers went - hopefully healed. Mine is still there - self healing and giving healing hasn't worked yet!
Further treatments with other people have confirmed to me that I am definitely getting light pains as guidance and these correspond with their physical pains (even when I've not been told where they are). This is where I concentrate on during a treatment. I request the pains be taken away and they go during or shortly after a session and I feel great afterwards. Which for me is great stuff.

Anyone else out there who has had this whilst healing and does it last or was it just a beginners thing?

Carmer

It is good to meet you Carmer and read your words.

I used to feel pains when allowing a treatment but I asked one day not to, and discovered that I still had a knowing of where to place my hands.

That to me, feels like a miracle!

And, I so often feel like a beginner! A beginner of discovering what I don't know yet and an explorer of what I have yet to discover!

Be you....

What you are describing Carmer is empathy, that is the ability to sense what someone is feeling, it is a valuable tool in energy work.

If you wish to see what energy healing can do when given in a negative way, try giving someone energy work when you are in a temper or deep despair, the effects on the recipient will be self evident 😉

There is no separation even when we are in deep despair or in a temper. There is no judgement, there is always healing ( Love ) here for us if we ask.

Love transforms.

It can be like this...

The miracle is that when we are totally connected, when we are in the oneness, then we allow the aches and pains to dissipate.

That word dissipate is such a good way of sharing how it can be!
Thank you Holos!

Many approach healing in the same way that others think of religion.

Some think that the way they learned is the only way, and that everything they learned is exactly right. They see that others have different views, but those others are wrong because the belief system doesn’t match their own.

Christians and Muslims and Jews and Hindus and Buddhists may not agree with each other, but many within the same category can’t agree either. Catholics teach that Protestants will not go to heaven, and the heaven that a Jehovah’s Witness works toward is not the same as the Church of England, yet all are Christians.

Those who have learned Reiki range from those who loosely interpret the teachings of Usui to those who religiously work to be just like him. Some believe that Reiki provides its own protection and others ask for protection. There are purists and there are those who pick and choose.

My point is that each has his/her own belief. Now, two people who believe exactly the opposite probably can’t both be right. But it is possible that both can be wrong. Belief does not change any actuality.

I can believe that the earth is pyramidal but my belief does not make it so. I can believe that it is doughnut shaped, but that does not make my belief true. I can find physical attributes that tend to prove my belief and I can find someone, somewhere who has written the words that explain what I believe, but these are also not necessarily true.

When you get down to it, God is or is not, all belief aside. By the same token, healing is or is not, all belief aside.

Religious experience is a very personal thing. When it comes down to the interaction between yourself and (a possible) God, no one else’s experience is just the same as yours, even if they use the same guidebook or none at all. And those who have that mystic experience are so overwhelmed by it that they cannot find the words to describe or explain it.

The giving and receiving of healing is equally a personal thing. When true healing occurs, it is extremely personal and totally outside of any teachings, although the teachings may be superimposed upon it. And those who have that mystic experience are so overwhelmed by it that they cannot find the words to describe or explain it.

There are those who play at religion and those who play at healing. Each gives lip service to what s/he has learned and may even paint by the numbers in order to “get it right.” Sometimes they break through to the real thing and the teachings take on less significance than the experience.

Let’s give each other the space for individual beliefs and strive for the true experience, which is beyond belief!

* * *
I wrote this response yesterday but did not post this message because I cannot find a way to take what seems like judgment or superiority out of the words. I have tried, believe me! And that is the whole point of the message—to get beyond a stance of “I know and you don’t!” None of us knows, for sure.

I think I will just have to let it stand and hope that no one is affronted and that it can help everyone to open his or her heart to total healing. Open to healing from the source and healing without any limitations of belief. Please find the healing even in these words.

Kinda reminds me of some old posts with Darkstar (wonder where he is now)
Knowledge; what we think we know about healing gets in the way! Even now i rarely find words to describe healing it has to be experienced. That for me is a better way; pure instinct leads to insight. As Nancy says that insight is personal and has a tendency to be difficult to express in words.

Pick up or give your aches and pains sure it can happen. Again it depends what you understand about healing and how you have been taught.

Is it a good idea? No not from where i stand; but my experiences/instincts are my own. My advice; never mind the words or teachings just do it and in turn begin to understand the person you are. But then that is too simple and even harder to explain.:)

Reading on here today has allowed me to realise something.
That something might be wrong, but just for today, I wanted to try to share....

That we hold ourselves separate because we think we are not worthy.
I think this may be how it is seen?.....
The reiki is worthy but we are not....
The reiki is what we are not.
So it has to be reiki because that way it is "for the highest good"
and it is seen that we are not,,,,

I never realised that before,
why reiki is seen like it is.....

"I am not worthy but the reiki is...."
I will send reiki because I am not good enough to....

Reiki is like a religion because it does what we think we can't....

If those that use reiki really believed in themselves, they wouldn't need to send reiki, it would be just like this....

we ARE healing

I just welcome the true sharing of our why.

Everything is thought, the energy is created, manifested and driven by thoughts not ideals and platitudes, if a healer does not engage in the thought processes of a healer then they do not produce healing energy.

Reiki is not an exception to this, the symbols were invested with a thought process, they were programmed so the user did not have to engage in the thought process of a healer as it is already done for them, but the thought process which drives the energy is still there 😉

However even with Reiki the focus can be changed with our thought processes, creative thought programmes are not set in stone, they can be altered with the intent of the user as we all have an unlimited creative potential within the oneness.

This is self evident in all the Reiki variations of the original thought process which created the system, someone thinks I can do this or that with Reiki and hey presto you have a new Reiki system, they pass on the new programme and the next person alters it again and another new Reiki system etc.

Just as the systems can be altered with creative thinking, so can the healing intent, so to say that Reiki or any form of energy work can only do good is a bit short sighted, we all have creative minds and are all quite capable of using them in whatever way we choose to.

Well a literal translation of one of the symbols is "this person is righteous and should be obeyed" (or something similar - check the Big Book of Reiki Symbols). I don't therefore think it's a matter of "only believe in yourself", it's therefore a given in the system that Reiki provides something that humanity doesn't have. I do both Reiki and spiritual healing, and I much prefer Reiki because I don't have to be anything special, nor do I have to imagine myself to be anything special: I can give Reiki whether I'm ill, or cranky, or tired, or out of tune... Reiki is Reiki and will work whatever. It only needs the human being to send it.

Hi Carmer,

I often feel pain or discomfort in my own body where the person I'm treating needs the energy. Usually it is like a dull ache but sometimes it can be more specific. It only lasts for the duration of the treatment & dissapears about 5 minutes after I'm finished - I use Kenyoku (dry bathing) to make sure I am fully disconnected from the person after. I don't believe that I can pass on my ailments or illnesses to a person during a treatment as the Reiki energy is for their highest good.
I have in the past had to take a break from treating someone because the discomfort I was feeling became too intense. However, I do prefer it when I experience it because it is just further confirmation for myself that I am focusing on the right areas.
