I was wondering if any therapists had any patients with this point showing and they found a way for it to disappear. Perhaps through conventional means or from the natural spectrum?
Thank you
Hi again, I noticed that lots of people looked at this post but no-one replied. That might be as I didn't give much info or might be that there was nothing to share. Just in case this may trigger some thoughts in somebody I thought I'd give a bit more info just to see.
We've been ttc no.2 for 4 yrs and have had 5 m/cs. Most of this time have had reflex. It's only as time has gone on that myself and my therapist have made the connection between my thyroid reflex point showing and my inability to become pg. When it's not there I become pg that mth. I've gone thru expensive immune treatments for the m/cs and we've avoided pg for a year, I'm 41 btw. We now can ttc again but the thyroid point is there.
At first reflex seemed to be able to shift it then it needed herbs and acu then I tried soy isoflavones with success. It's almost like after each m/c I have to find something else to shift the thyroid point as the previous therapies/suppls which worked don't have impact anymore. It takes anywhere from 1 to 9 mths to fall pg depending on how easily or difficult I find to shift this thyroid point.
My Reproductive Immunologist did think my thyroid wasn't right, NHS poo poo'd me. He felt TSH a bit high for ttc and free T4 low. So I'm on 25 mcg of thyroxine since Dec but this hasn't helped the reflex thyroid point. Thankfully in general, however, I feel really well.
Thanks again for reading.
Hi Millie,
Thanks for providing more information. Just before I reply, can I suggest for future posts that you don't use abbreviations as not everyone will know what you are talking about. Indeed, I do pregnancy reflexology and still had to think twice over a few abbreviations. Thanks 🙂
When you say thyroid point 'showing', what exactly do you mean? Are you saying it feels grainy, congested, hollow etc?
The thyroid is part of the endocrine system and all parts are closely entwined. If one part is not functioning normally, then this can have repercussions on the other parts of the system. So, yes, perhaps because there may be an issue with your ovaries, then this may also show on the thyroid reflex point. Alternatively, think about the other points in the endocrine system - can that give you a clue too?
Also have a think about what the thyroid is used for? It's is responsible for metabolism and how quickly the body burns energy. I've found in athletes that the thyroid reflex point can feel congested.
The thyroid is regulated by the hypothalamus in the brain so make sure that point is worked on, on your big toe, as well as all the other points of the endocrine system.
Hope this helps.

Sarah, thank you for your reply. Sorry about the abbreviations, I've been trawling around message boards so long on this subject that I fear they've all become second nature...unfortunately! Just as well I changed the RI one to Reproductive Immunologist! So for anyone else reading I'll just do a brief what is what.
ttc = trying to conceive
m/cs = miscarriages
pg = pregnant
acu = acupuncture
Hope that covers it.
The thyroid point feels like a bubble. It is mostly in my left foot and sometimes in my right altho always at a lesser intensity. However after my last miscarriage the point showed quite strongly in both feet. No other points in the endo system show up. Occassionally the colon shows in my left foot, not sure of the technical name but the downward area?
Interesting about the athletes connection. Alas I can't put my hand up to that one. Generally fit yes but athlete no!
I constantly search for answers to all our losses and try to learn along the way. Unfortunately we haven't found many people willing to listen which makes this situation even more difficult.
Thanks again Sarah for your insight.
Millie,
Can I ask if your reflexologist is trained in specific pre-natal and pregnancy techiques?
Yes Sarah that is her speciality. She's been doing this for 10 yrs and has had many, many successes. I was recommended to her by a friend who is one of the success stories 🙂
Hi again Sarah, I've been thinking further about the point you made regarding the ovaries and thyroid and how they can be linked and could perhaps create this picture in my feet. It was when I considered the point you made and how the soy isoflavones worked before that I wondered if there was a connection. They increase oestrogen and stimulate ovulation in a similar fashion to clomid.
I wonder based on what you've said I've been focussing too much on thyroid and should concentrate on what I can do to stimulate ovulation? I do have normal Basal Body Temp charts every month with a clear thermal shift and a luteal phase of 12 days+. The only thing I would say is that my temps are on the low side at the beginning of my cycle which can indicate underactive thyroid. Also when my thyroid point disappears from reflex, from adding something in to influence it e.g. acupuncture, my temps are higher and I have warmer feet.
Does any of the above make any sense or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks again.
Yep, you're making sense.
Also, not sure where you stand on this, but I've been reading some more in depth stuff about Law of Attracation which makes perfect sense to me. So, coming from a completely different angle, stop focussing so much on what you haven't got, what might be wrong, what might not be working - start focussing on what you do want (ie a baby), know that you welcome perfect health, and look forward to what you want. Focus on the positives. No negative thoughts whatsoever.

Thx again Sarah, interested to know if you've ever worked with or had patients work with a Kinesiologist alongside the Reflexology? Just wondered whether something in Kinesiology may give me a steer?
I understand your thoughts on focussing on positives. I do this, although I have to admit sometimes it can be difficult, and have been using meditation CDs, EFT and CBT along the way. I've had to pull together a lot of tools to help me get through all of this!
There was a time when I left becoming pregnant to reflexology and positive thinking and unfortunately both times it took 9 mths to become pregnant. This on top of having miscarriages is a painful double whammy. It was only when I looked for other answers and tried different things did I become pregnant. So I guess tough experience has taught me that I have to be my own advocate. This has been proven again and again. If I had stuck with the NHS I'm sure they would have just let me have more miscarriages. Unfortunately, in general, there don't seem to be many people willing to help on this topic of recurrent miscarriages. You often feel at the bottom of the pile. However, I tried not to let this beat me and wanted to try to carve a path for myself and one that I could give hope to others too.
I also feel the need to be proactive as the immune treatments we have done typically only last for a certain amount of time, 4-6 mths. We have spent £2.5k in consultations and tests. I've taken Humira which is normally used for Rh Arthritis patients in order to re-balance my cytokines. We had to pay for this ourselves and it cost £1600. We have also undergone LIT which is where my Husband's white blood cells are injected into me, this is to make my body more accepting of our embryo, £2k. Once pregnant I will be on steroids until 12 wks, heparin, low dose aspirin and will have intralipids infusions.
After 5 miscarriages and the NHS washing their hands of us we needed peace of mind going forward, that we were doing all we could to hopefully alter the outcome next time. Immune tests showed that reproductively this could be the answer for the miscarriages. After a year of trying not to conceive we have been cleared to try and that is why it is quite important that we do all we can to conceive and is why I am using all my experience of what has helped us conceive before and trying to get others opinions to help us.
I am very much for using natural means and as you will be able to tell while we suffered the 5 miscarriages we used natural therapies and I wanted to stick to this. Unfortunately we did then have to turn to conventional medicine, after the miscarriages, to help but I have continued the reflex, acu and herbs in order to keep myself as balanced as possible while undergoing immune treatment.
I did say at the start that I had a long story which I wasn't sure anyone would want to hear but felt it was important to put it into context. Perhaps it may help someone else reading in the future.
Thank you Sarah and if you have any other thoughts that may help me, or anyone else who is reading, I would very much appreciate them.
