Hello!

I have been asked to do a little demo/talk at my daughters brownies group. I have never given a reflexology talk before and am a bit scared. The group will be split in 2 with half doing yoga and half with me for reflexology. I guess I will have about 10 girls between the ages of 7 and 10 (ish).

I was thinking of doing a little explanation, a demo and then maybe getting them to work some main points on each other? What do you think?

My main concerns are, am i going to end up with a load of girls tickling each other? What points would be the best to focus on? It will be impossible to do any kind of consultation as their parents will not be there. I don't really want to put them all off by sending forms home before the evening. What am I going to say to them??

Has anyone seen any child friendly foot maps I could print out??

If anyone has any advice at all I would really appreciate it!

Thank you! 🙂

Been here! Done this!!! Loved it!!!!

Don't bother with print outs, unless someone specifically asks for one, then you can send it in with your daughter to the next meeting. Have one on a table nearby, so that they can look at it.

I did Rainbow, Brownie and Guide meetings on different nights. It was great fun. There was no time to give a talk - and most of them were so well informed they didn't need one - I just got down to business. For the Brownies, there were 25 of them, and just a two hour meeting, so they got to remove one shoe/sock, and I did a very quick sweep over the foot - couple of sinus moves on toes (which usually made them giggle!), then firm massage and ankle mobilisation. There was a lot of noise in the other part of the church hall, but at my end, my Brownies were all quietly sitting in a line on a bench watching my every move. I gave them each a leaflet at the end, and have to say that I got quite a few bookings from it, from both the girls and their families!

The Guides got both feet treated, but just 5 mins per foot, and I didn't get round the whole group in one evening - I had to go back the following month.

There simply wasn't time to try to teach them how to work on each other - although since they were about 10 years old, I have taught my own girls and some of their friends when they were around, how to do foot massage.

I am new to this group, but very experienced at this as I run both Brownies and Guides,
What have they asked you to do?
what are they expecting from you?
i have never really done a talk for the girls, but if it is something the leaders are expecting make sure you let them know beforehand if you decide not to (i wouldn't if it was me!)

we often do pamper nights at both units (girls choice not mine as i usually come home with random coloured nails!)

some girls get too giggly with feet so i do feet for some and hands for other, but i have also done sessions before where they take it in turns to do simple steps on each others hands.

also might be worth having an idea of what they will be doing in the way of yoga, will there be a talk for that, presumably they will try to do some, will there be music going on (wouldn't want to do a talk yourself over someone elses music)

hope some of my comments are helpful, feel free to contact me if you need any other help

Have you done this yet Breeze? If so, please let us know how you got on!

When I have done this sort of thing, I tend to do a demo on a Mum's feet - that helps them to take it seriously. Then get everyone to take off shoes and socks and work on each other with relaxation techniques and a few main areas, e.g. head, stomach, spine, solar plexus.

Look forward to hearing how it went.

Janet x
