Hi Im hoping that you may have some advice on a dilemma for me:) My father is 82, over weight ,high bp,aortic anyurism, high cholesterol,,has kidney failure and is still getting around(just),he now has swollen legs and and planta fasciitis in his left foot, i have been massaging his legs ,trying help drain the fluid off, he has now been given tabs for water ret;he cannot do the exercises that the web is advising he gets cramp,he obviously cannot walk very well because its painful for him, he hasnt been out this week and usually hes always out.any ideas what else i could do fro him? your thoughts are welcome thankyou:)x.rayne.
Aww poor thing, it's so painful I know. To stretch the tendon, he can run his foot over a golf ball along the line of that tendon, or he can place a bottle of water in the freezer, place a tea towel over it before he runs his foot over it, he doesn't want freezer burn lol. Ideal situation would be to lose weight, and regular foot massages would be good, remembering to pull the foot forward a little so as not to hurt the tendon more. This happened to my friend during and after pregnacy til she lost the baby weight !!
Just thought of something else, there are wooden rollers, usually come with reflexology gift tins, that are ridged, he can use that (in place of golf ball, as more surface) if you have or can find one.
Excellent advise jo jo i would only add to maintain the gentle exercise despite the discomfort (pain killers if neccessary) and an ankle/foot support during th day ig that helps oh one last thing make sure his shoes/slippers are a good fit to, its a v.painful condition but one that does settle with rest and gentle exercise :)x
