Hi, I've just got a client (my first actually!) and she has a pacemaker. Can someone give me some advice as to how I do the treatment? I've looked on line and most of what I found said to just do the heart reflex lightly and not work it too much.

Thanks in advance for any advice 🙂

ps: she has had reflexology in the past and has never had any problems.

Hi clarabell and welcome,
im not a reflexologist but a nurse and i've seen this ?? araound pacemakers several time indeed my reiki master warned about being careful around pacing site and i admit to being somewhat baffled by it all. Unless you are going thump someone on the chest or use a terrifically powerful magnet near them i just dont see what harm you could do 8o!
i have looked on athens and the other medical research sites and haven't come up with any research that says you should restrict or avoid complementary therapies
However i am still quite knew to all this so am happy to bow to a greater knowledge.
Well done on your first client anyway hope many more to come :)x

Hi pollypips, thanks for your answer.

I wasn't sure how much it would affect it by working the feet. Hopefully someone will confirm that you are right!!

I would do the treatment as normal. In my view reflexology is a therapy that brings about balance. A pacemaker is doing the same thing - regulating the heart beat. So, I don't think that the two conflict with each other.

I have treated my neice, who has had a pacemaker for 10 years, and had no problems.
