Morning all
I have just received the Laura Norman book - Reflexology handbook - it looks fab.
I have 2 questions though and would appreciate your feedback please.
1. Laura does not as far as I can see in this book say that the left foot or right foot should be worked on first but it does show in her diagrams that the left foot is worked on first and then the right foot. I know this subject has been mentioned before and I always work the right foot first in the flow of the digestive system to prevent constipation and finishing off with the left foot. I was trained to do it that way. Can anyone see in her books where she states that one foot should be dealt with first before the other foot. Surely working on the right foot first makes sense?
2. The rectum area in all the books I have seen and read state it is on the sole of the foot the plantar, on the right foot just below the ascending colon but Laura Normans book suggests it is where the sciatic nerve is on the top part of the ankle quite high up!! Is this not bizarre?
I am confused?
What do you think?
Thanks

RE: Laura Norman books - suggest left foot first?
Morning Trace,
I don't think it actually matters which foot we start on, although most of us are taught to start on the right foot. To me, the right foot seems more natural particularly in terms of following the direction of the digestive tract around the feet as it would go round the body.
The reflex point for the rectum that Laura Norman states is the same one that I've learnt at the London School of Reflexology. After we've worked on the reproductive points, we then massage the calf working down towards the back of the heel, along the achilles tendon where the rectum point is.

Hi sarah7
I do work that point at the very end too but was told it is the achilles and the sciatic nerve nothing to do with rectum.....oh well as long as all the reflexes are worked we cannot miss out anything! More research I feel for me!!
Thanks

Its strange as I have been trained to start on the left foot. I am not sure of the reason behind it, i think my lecturer may have said it was to do with one side of the body being to do with giving and the other with receiving, so you start with the left which is to do with receiving. It may have also had something to do with tradtitional chinese medicine but i can't remember what?!?

RE: Laura Norman books - suggest left foot first?
hi TJG
we were trained to start on the left foot as this represents the past and the right foot is the present. So l guess you have to deal with the past before the present. everyone is trained differently so l think you should just go with what you know and what feels right to you.

Yeah we were told to start with the right foot as it aids flow of digested food if we follow the path along the right first and then over to the left foot to the rest of the colon.
