Hi Hazel,
new here, but I will try!
Firstly, how do you know that your treatment and the kidney pains and hurting joints are connected? Maybe just a coincidence that you are erroneously blaming on yourself?

Re making someone too relaxed, well, pat yourself on the back for making them so - but perhaps offer them a cup of coffee to wake them up before they leave?;)

hi there,

first of all i wouldnt offer a cup of coffee as this is a toxin and you dont want to go ruining all the hard work of the treatment you have just done offer a glass of water and maybe next time they should bring someone with them to drive them home just in case that happens again.
second.... dont forget that each person responds differently to reflexology and the pains and aches they are having could be the result of the body getting rid of toxins... of course if the pains continue then they should see their gp...try not to worry to much and make sure you ask them how they have been since they first came to you and list the reactions in your case study.
hope this helps
m 🙂

Hi Hazelflower firstly, don't worry!

What you say to them is, everyone reacts in different ways and the fact that you have any reaction at all is good, as it means that their body is responding well to Reflexology. However, any symptoms of pain should be responded with careful words. You don't want to put your clients off or scare them.

Reflexology IMO would never cause pain just after a treatment, unless maybe they have kidney problems to start with. You must have taken a consultation at the start of the treatment, was anything mentioned in there that is connected to this type of pain.
As for being so relaxed that they almost drive the wrong way around the roundabout,(wow you must be good) then maybe you should suggest that they go for a short walk after their treatment before driving home.

Personally, I always give my clients a large glass of water after any treatment and tell them that when they get home, if they should have any reactions like a slight headache or dizziness or whatever it is. Then they should drink lots more water, as their symptoms are just the toxins being released into their system and they need to be flushed out.

However, like lotus flower says, never give tea or coffee as you are just introducing more toxins into the body and undoing all your good work.

Good Luck next time. Hope this helps?

Ha Ha this one made me chuckle. Some clients blame lots of things on Reflexology, but driving the wrong way around a roundabout???.

If your clients complain about feeling tired, having a headache and feeling lethargic after, or the day after a treatment, congratulate yourself, they are responding to treatment so you must be doing your job right.

Of course you will already have warned of such after effects in your aftercare advice so they shouldn't be suprised at all infact should feel quite pleased as they've got their money's worth.

No don't give coffee or you'll just add to the toxins you're trying to get rid of. Just offer water.
