I qualified with VTCT back in 2005 and have been very busy getting married and having children ever since. I have practised reflexology regularly and am always reading up on it. I have finally got to the stage where i would like to properly start my business (youngest starts school in sept!) so I thought i would try to join the AOR for a bit of support and because they seem to run lots of interesting courses.
I have just checked their website and apparently if you did VTCT pre 2010 you need to attend one of these bridging courses. Does this mean there is big gaps in my knowledge??
Has anyone done one? What is it like? What happens? I can see that you do part online and part practical.
bit nervous now that I am under qualified.

AoR confirmation of professional standards

Hi, I am writing from the AoR and we have just noticed your post. I'd just like to clarify things a little. When we looked back at VTCT courses prior to 2010 there was a wide variability in training, some students were trained very well, some were slightly lacking and there was a lack of pathology as compared to the current qualification. So we put the confirmation of professional standards course together specifically for therapists wanting to come to full membership of the AoR. This course is mainly virtual although there is a one day face to face day to verify professionalism. There is also a case study element. Included in the cost of this course is 6 months free membership.

However, under the process of recognition of prior learning, if you have been in practice since you first trained albeit to a reduced level, you might be able to to come to full membership. It is really dependent upon amount of clients treated since qualifying, other training, CPD etc To try this route first, you need to fill the intial information form on www.aor.org.uk or you can call me to discuss further.
