Towels versus Sheets, or both?

Hi Everyone

I am a stay at home mum but have decided to go back into massage again and am just buying a new therapy couch, towels, oils etc. I qualified 13 years ago so I am sure that there has been a lot of progress since then and I'm trying to get back up to speed with everything!

Regarding towels and sheets - I learnt how to use towels for modesty but I see now a lot of therapy couch covers also come as a set with a sheet thrown in. That made me wonder if I should be using sheets to cover the client as I'm sure they are quicker to wash and dry.

Can anyone shed some light on whether they use sheets instead of towels to cover the client? Or both? or a sheet and a blanket to keep the client warm? And has anyone got some handy youtube links or something to help an old girl out with refreshing her 'towel / modesty management' ?!

Thanks in advance. 😮

Hi KC again

I use sarongs as well as towels. There is no difference in the use of them. Towels are just warmer in the winter. My main use with the sarongs is over the female chest area, as it can be tucked in easily and can be tied up like an Indian bra. I do this as I'm more stretchy and manipulative in my work. Also sarongs are far more colourful, and my female clients love that added touch 😉

Hi Reiki Pixie,

What a lovely notion, working with sarongs. I have a few in my cupboard (don't get taken out on account of very rare warm days in the UK!) so I might take them out and practice a bit on my husband.

So where do you buy your sheets to fit your massage table and towels from? When I last did massage I must admit I just threw a flat sheet over the table and everyone was happy but this time around I am wondering if I shouldn't be getting fitting sheets and I don't know where to look for ones that are narrow enough for a massage table without actually buying designated massage ones with the price that comes with it!

Any tips are greatly appreciated and thank you very much for replying to both of my threads:D

Kirsty

Hi ya

My sarongs are from travels in India and Indonesia 😎 But I have a few throws from this country I use for couch covers. Towels are from the non-exotic superstore called Matalan 😉

I just chuck a sheet or a throw over the couch, and if I have a oily treatment to do then I use a sarong over the sheet, to be removed and wash after each client. I find paper couch roll for this purpose to be useless and ineffective. Just use couch roll for wrapping bolsters and rolled up towels and head rest.

I think go with what you are comfortable with, I use towels in my practice as that was how I was trained back in '96, but I do like the sound of the sarongs 🙂

I use fleece blankets, got them from Dunelm Mill, they wash well and dry very quick

Very interesting to see how everyone goes for personal choice, not just what you think you should do or what you have been told to do. I also trained with towels, but I don't like the idea of loads of bulky towels to store (and clean and dry) so think I will go with the sheet and blanket option.

Thanks everyone
