:confused:Hi there - not been on here for quite a while so hello again .....

I attended a course yesterday which was really excellent. However whilst on the course the tutor told us that we shouldn't be using pre-blended oils for massage if we weren't qualified aromatherapists.

Now I'm a bit confused about this. I qualified four years ago and during the training we always used pre-blended oils and so I have continued to use them ever since. I get them from a reputable supplier and only ever use a relaxing or calming blend but now I'm not sure what I should be doing. Shouldn't I be using the pre-blended oils? Thanks.

Hi Bexx

I qualified in 1999, and was also taught that we should not use 'pre-blended' oils. Personally I still use grapeseed oil (and have done for many years with no complaints from clients).

Regards

Alan

Hi Bexx, I to was taught not to use blended oils. However I have recently been using an oil produced by PhysiQue which contains Soya, fractionated coconut oil, vitamin A and pure grapefruit essential oil. It also has water dispersible properties which make keeping your sheets and towels fresh and oil free easy in a 40' wash.

I know of a lot of massage therapists who do use pre-blended oils

it may be worth speaking to your insurance provider to see what they say

my beef with pre blended oils are that they are nearly always based on sweet almond oil - which is a problem for anyone with nut allergies - a lot of them seem to have rosemary in them - contra-indicated for high blood pressure among other things
