Hi All

I started my holistic massage course today and I'm worried I have a problem with feet. We did one leg today and I was already nervous anyway but when it came my turn to perform the massage I really felt icky touching the girls foot. As I walked round to the bottom of the table I could really smell them and then for hours after I could still smell it.

The tutor said when we're treatingpeople we could include a foot soak in the price or something if need be which is fine. I would say I didn't mind touching the feet it wasjust the whiff.

Has anyone ever been like this? Does it get easier or was she just a smelly foot person? Even smelling mine now they don't smell that bad.:)

RE: oooh feet!

Hi,
I do reflexology and while at first I did have a little issue with other peoples feet it does not bother me at all now. If anything I worry more about what people think when they do mine! (There really isn't anything bad about my feet.) To me anyway, it has just become another part of the body and I enjoy making people feel good which is the point really isn't it?
Anyway, I hope you get on better next time and this client was just a one off problem.

Take care.
C

RE: oooh feet!

Hi. You don't mention in your post if you cleaned the clients feet before touching them. I always wipe them with bacterial wipes (sainsburys sell these) as part of the treatment, before I actually massage the feet. I would not dream of touching them until wiped as infection could be spread and it gives you a chance to look atthe feet to see if there are any veruccas, athletes foot, etc. It is also nice andrefreshing for the client. If it is a cold day just pat them dry afterwards and wrap up well in a towel to keep warm. Hope this helps, Greengrass.

Hi
We had to wipe them with antibacteria gel and I used 4 pads but they still smelt.

I'm hoping it was just her as we have to work on different people each week. so maybe next week will be better.

RE: oooh feet!

Hi there, I have always had a problem with the thought of touching someone's feet, but luckily we didn't start doing them on my Holistic massage course last year until quite a way through it. By this time we were so used to touching parts of people's bodys that we felt uncomfortable with (e.g. high up on their thigh etc) that it didn't seem to bad!

Now, amazingly, I am studying Reflexology (if anyone had told me that a couple of years ago I would have said that they were mad!), I do still have odd moments when I think eugh! but hopefully it will get easier. Mind you, even our tutor says that sometimes they can be disgusting!

Don't let it put you off and let us know how you get on!

RE: oooh feet!

Hello,

I am a special massage therapist and I make my own massage cream from natural products. I include mint scent in it so that it makes it easier to do feet.

It really works

Regards

Joe
