Hi all
I am interested in the FHT advertised body work weekend in Maidstone in September. One day is STR and the other day is MET (or something like that!)
My questions are:
which is most useful for a bog ordinary massage/aromatherapist/reflexologist
if I could only do one of them?
Do you benefit from both or is it something that overlaps and one or the other is sufficient for general treatments and the odd stiff neck?
is anyone else going on the courses?

I am hoping to do both days if people think its necessary but just don't want to double up if its a bit of a waste and something else would be more beneficial. I really want to learn some new stuff to add to what i already do and make it more effective rather than just relaxing if that makes sense. I know that I can ease general aches and pains, and that I am nowhere near ready for sports massage yet, so would like something in between to improve myself in the meantime.

many thanks
love Melanie x

Hi Melanie,

Both techniques are worth learning. STR is Soft Tissue Release and MET is Muscle Energy Technique. I incorporate both into my massage as they can be executed on just about every muscle group in the body.

The questions you might want to ask yourself are:

Do I want to stand out from the crowd?
Do I want to be able to cherry pick from a large repertoire of skills?
Do I want to be able to work in a more advanced way therefore be able to treat a wider range of complaints?
Do I want to work more effectively?
Do I want to be a better therapist?
Do I need CPD's?

If you answer yes to any of these then maybe both days are worth doing.

Cheers, Sue

Hi all,
Jo,
I will PM you x
Sue,
thanks for the inspirational reply.
The answer is that I would like to be the best I can be, and then better!!
Thats why I wanted to know about these techniques as funds are obviously not unlimited, so I want to make sure that I can do some short courses, and that they are the most benefit for where I am at the moment. I look at what is available and want to do them all!! Sadly that isn't going to happen so its a case of which is the most logical next progression rather than picking something which is beyond me at the moment. It will be great to be able to incorporate these techniques when people have bad necks or shoulders, or tired legs from running etc to give a more effective treatment. I don't need to do it for CPD points, just want to improve what I do at the moment.
So thank you for the advice and I will book both days.
Love Melanie x

Str/met

Hi Melanie

I use both STR and MET as they are both very effective and can be easily incorporated into a treatment/massage, definitely do both workshops if you can

if the tutor is who I think it is then you will have a great weekend and come away inspired!
