Can anyone tell me how much a massage therapist would expect to get paid (approx) per hour in a small but busy West London salon?? I have just recently been offered a job (and about to qualify next week), but not talked £££ so i have no idea what to suggest!!!
Can anyone help!!! (My massage Teacher said to be happy with £6 per hr,,, I thought this was a bit low for an hour's full body massage - but am I wrong?!!! (the salon charges the client £44)
Thanks in advance for any pointers!!

RE: Does anyone know the answer?!
Hi Dip, I am moving your post to the therapies section, you will get more replies there.
Plus one from me!
RE: Does anyone know the answer?!
Hi again, I have asked the other moderators to move this, as I can't.
Basically this amount is way too low.
I have my own Centre and we rent the rooms out at £7 per hour and the thearpist keep the money they get. They get £20 for a 40 min back massage and £30 for a full body.
I myself get the same, so work it out, £6 an hour is not good. You will have to consider where you want to work. The best bet is to be freelance and you give a percentage of what you take or pay by the hour or for a session, but even where I have worked and paid 40% (which is on the steep side) I would get more than this.
RE: Does anyone know the answer?!
Hey Dip,
I used to work in a centre in Hammersmith, the clients were charged £45 an hour which was split 50 / 50 - so I was on £22.50 an hour for each client I saw. No client no pay.

RE: Does anyone know the answer?!
it depends how regular the work is going to be and if you are salaried or freelance.
i work freelance at a hotel spa and was earning a good % BUT they didnt use me as much as the girl that only charges them £5 - £6 per hour. i even re-negotiated my rates and was busy for a month but then they got a student in. she is now leaving so they want to throw the work at me again but frankly, i am fed up with their disloyalty... business or not. they work you like a pack horse and it makes me lose my reason for why i wanted to do this work in the first place. (ok rant over....)
i wont do it for that amount because i know they are making 29 quid an hour (FBM) or even 39 quid for aroma FBM... if people are stupid enough to pay for the use of pre blended oils that then guises itself as aromatherapy (sheesh!).
as said, best bet is to find somewhere on a permanent basis that charges a small amount for the room or a fair %.
i want to move up norf and work at candie's place!!
Hmmm... Thanks
Thanks guys, that has helped - and I love the "The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for." quote Candie - that has settled that then!!!
I'll let you all know how i get on - but my negotiating skills are pants, and i feel bad charging - but i suppose i'll get over that eh??!!
😉

RE: Hmmm... Thanks
charging is hard initially....it does get easier with time....

RE: Hmmm... Thanks
She says she's gonna offer me an hourly rate, but it's not a freelance basis, she would expect me to be there for 6hrs whether or not i was massaging, (i think!!) However, I'm thinking of saying £15 per hr or £20 per massage... does that sound ok??!

It's sorted... the deal is done!!
She offered me £10per hr regardless of how many massages there are... so I think, for a starting part time position, that's ok....
Thanks for your advice chaps xx
