I realise there are a lot of alternative therapies that are not suitable for pregnant ladies. Which ones, if any are suitable and will not pose a risk.

Thanks

I would go for painfree childbirth through a hypnobirthing certified hypnotherapist or a hypnotist who specialises in painfree childbirth. If I'd have known about this before I had my children I definately would have gone for this.

hi jos,

many complementary therapies are absolutely safe and fine for pregnant ladies and are beneficial.

the important thing is to find a therapist who has done advanced training in pregnancy or is experienced with dealing with pregnancy.

i'd recommend reflexology for the duration of pregnancy and through labour to post natal treatments. massage is another great treatment so long as it can be adapted accordingly.

if its for you... good luck with it!!

I'm pregnant and a therapist. i'm presently enjoying Bowen Technique, Homeopathy and Healing, and occassionally cranio sacral. I would love to get a Reflexology one of these days too! I spoke to an Acupuncturist yesterday who said best to avoid acupuncture during pregnancy, though it may be a specific way that she learnt (sri lanka), I had never heard that before.

Most therapists are trained in the limitations during pregnancy, so probably best to go for the one you like, then speak to a therapist. Also depends what you are looking for? if you mention your symptoms (or is it general relaxation?) then maybe I could help more.

Homeopathy is TOTALLY safe for pregnant women and babies. It is often recommended and used by midwives.
It can even be used to turn a breech baby!

RE: Therapies for pregnant women

Hi,
there are many great therapies which are completely safe and beneficial during pregnancy as has already been said...interestingly i have a friend who works with acupuncture with pregnant ladies, especially in demand when it comes to labour!

As has already been mentioned some therapists haven't specialised in working with pregnancy so may not feel able to carry out treatment within their own level of training, but as a therapist who along with the team I work with, specialise in this area we offer varied therapy options for sub fertility, fertility, pregnancy , birth and beyond! including.... reflexology, reiki, hypnotherapy, bowen, craniosacral, kinesiology, homeopathy, massage and meditation...... to mention a few, which prove to be great for expectant mums and dads for that matter!
