Today I am grateful for having a kind brother who is looking out for me.

It's a complex situation but, long story short, my sister is trying to undermine my mother's intentions for me here at this flat. He gave me hope that this situation could be upturned and set the ball rolling re. solicitor's advice. Having now spoken to them I currently feel hopeful and empowered about my future here.

Today I am grateful for the availability of the food that we eat.

I was just thinking and appreciating what I was eating and how it all came together, i.e. from different countries, people all working to enable myself to be able to buy and enjoy the end products!

With families now tending not to eat together so much, it stands to reason that saying grace (which doesn't have to involve God) is now a largely forgotten custom. I found these different ways of saying grace (online)

Very interesting. Particularly - to me - that the Native American one is the only one that actually thanks the animals and plants that are being eaten.
Do you say grace yourself? What do you say?
Mine (given to me by my spirit helpers) is (addressed to the plants and animals) :
I need food as you needed food.
You are food as I will be food.
Thank you for feeding me.

I am always grateful for the food I eat but haven't, until today, become more aware of how just amazing it is that I am able to eat as I do (i.e. I am mindful of those starving and in war zone situations where access to food is very uncertain). I think I would feel more comfortable with a thought acknowledgement before eating, rather than saying something out loud (I live alone).

A less reverential grace - good drink, good meat, good God let's eat!

Today I am grateful for getting back lighting in my frontroom! I have been 2 days without it (due to a fault). Being without something you take for granted enables renewed appreciation of it when it is restored.
