has anyone done the interactive solgar training course??? it sounds really good and gives u a a certificate in supplementary health. its very expensive tho 500 euro it would want to be very very good. has anyone done this course??? if so what did ya think of it???:D
Hi,
Not done that course, but I've had a quick look to see what I can find about it on the web. Couldn't actually find much about the content of the course...
[DLMURL] http://www.ion.ac.uk/endorsements.htm [/DLMURL]
a correspondence course designed for those working within health food stores, covering the anatomy and physiology of the main body systems, plus an introduction to nutrition and the use of herbs.
... do you have any links you could provide?
My main concern would be that Solgar are the manufacturer of a range of herbs and vitamins, so would the course be specifically targetted around their products (i.e. are you going to become a salesperson for them) or does the course offer a more general across-the-board knowledge of nutrition, vitamins, herbs etc. From the quoted passage above, it would appear that the focus is mainly on a&p and the details on the nutrition/herbal side are just introductory, which (and call me sceptical if you wish) IMO would indicate they want to train you up to be able to promote their products.
A "certificate" in supplementary health means what exactly? Is it a "certificate of attendance"? an HND, BTEC, BSc, Diploma or what? Certificates aren't always worth what you've paid to get them, especially if it's not something recognised in the general field that you're trying to get into. So, what is the interest in this course for you? What would you get out of it? What is your ultimate goal?

How will the qualification support me in my career?
The qualification that you will gain will be certificated by Edexcel and is
Quality and Curriculum Authority (QCA) approved. This means that it is a
registered award which has met rigorous quality assurance standards, the
same which apply for all national qualifications.
This qualification demonstrates your ability, knowledge and understanding
of nutrition, the body and supplementary health. This could impact on your
chances of success in the job market in comparison to applicants with no formal
qualification on the topic. It may even equip you with the skills to pursue
higher education or further vocational training in the workplace.
It's a BTEC level 3 course, recognised and like the quote suggests might be an idea for those considering nutrition at university.
