Hi everyone, I am new to this so please bear with me. Am 6 weeks into course and am not sure that we are on track. Has anyone recently taken theory or pratical exam. What did the pratical entail? What level of A & P did you need to go to i.e. all ligaments? tendons? bones and joints? obviously muscles incl insertions, actions and origins? In the pratical were you given an injury or what line did examiner take? Any help would be appreicated as I feel as though I am drowning! Thanks

Hello Kateking,

Welcome to Healtypages!

I've moved your post over to the Student/Training Forum who you should be able to find an answer.

The ITEC has a reputation for varying standards in the industry, the variables are the college at which it is taught and the instructor. As an assessor of this award I would be looking for the student to have a sound knowledge of the basic muscle groups, ligaments, tendons etc. Muscle origins, insertion and action form an important part of the syllabus. During the practical I use verbal questioning to supplement the evidence, ie if I dont see it I ask about it.
Regarding the practical, your tutor will give you advice as to whether you will be given an injury or a scenario.
What I will add here is that these questions should be directed to your tutor in the first instance and then the college if you do not receicve satisfactory response.

Hi KK

I haven't done ITEC sports massage, but helped a friend get through it last summer. Likely I read the syllabus and retranslated it, and also helped her with her technique. Compared to other ITEC quals, The SM course is quite intensive and so it should be. But it is worth working at it. As my friend said to me recently, "I wasn't really interested in sports massage, but it improved my technique and made me a more confident massage therapist."

Best Wishes

RP

PS She passed the exams with no problems.

Thanks for your responses. It all helps. I am enjoying the course and yes it is intensive but I agree, it will be worth it.
