I am not really sure where to put this post but as it is research I thought I would try here first, I am completing a business development course prior to becoming self employed and we have been asked to research growing trends and statistics to show that the market for Holistic therapy is growing. A good idea I suppose but having spent over 4 hours trawling the net I cant find any!
Can anyone help and point me in the right direction,
many thanks Karen.

RE: Increase in treatments statistics

Hi Karen
This is something I'd be interested in too. I've devised a marketting questionnaire and have given out about 60 so far and I've had the measily 4 back. I gave them to friends/colleges so expected to get a better response.
Disappointing!

RE: Increase in treatments statistics

Sometimes your local business library will have Mintel, Keynote and social trend reports which will cover the stats. Also most Small Business Development centres usually can produce business packs for you with this type of info in it for free. Also talk to the Associations ie. BCMA, IGPP and Dep of health etc.

I used to be a business researcher and there is tonnes of info out there, but sometimes you have to go beyond the internet because this type of reasearch normally costs money and only businesses or government entities will make the investment. Bear in mind that questionnaires are useful but only if you have a large cross section of the community, if you only ask friends/colleagues you run the risk of getting weighted answers, which are not truly reflective of your catchment area. If you can bear it, it is best to get out on the streets, where you can target different age groups and social backgrounds.

Good luck, I'm sure you find what you need, but I do know what a laborious task it can be.

RE: Increase in treatments statistics

I have some articles and links for you they have been posted on HP before but cannot remember the names of the threads. If you email me at kim@angelshealing.com I will send you the articles.

The BBC did some research on the 'Soul of Britain' and also the Henley Centre (they advise governments of future trends) did the largest research with consumers. Also the BMA did some research in 1986ish that stated that more people visit complementary health practitioners then they do their GP's and they visit more often.
The ICM (Institiute of Complementary Health) is also worth contacting.

Love beyond measure

Kim xx
