Hi everyone! 🙂
I just had my first full day of Reflexology yesterday & myself & a few others have found that our hands & forearms felt quite tired & achy by the end of the day.
What I'm wondering is if there are any hand/arm exercises that maybe we could use to help strengthen us a little?
I know in time it will get much easier, I was just wondering if there was something I could try & pass on just now that will help until we get a bit stronger.
Thanks in advance! 🙂
Stretch arms, make a fist, loosen fist, shake fingers those kind of things, the feeling will go soon enough 🙂
My husband does hand conditioning exercises (he teaches martial arts) I will ask him for some exercises for you but I do know that he makes a tight fist then spread the fingers as far as you can, like you are trying to split the skin between your fingers, doing that over and over strengthens the hand, wrist and forearm muscles.
I've given a set of hand and wrist strengthening exercises to do by the physio at my GP practice, as I suffered badly when I began preparing to return to therapies after a career break.
The exercises do make a difference. I'd feared my dreams of a comeback were going to be ruined by the pain I experienced, but as long as I don't over-do it I think I'll be able to manage.
If the discomfort continues, it may be worth contacting your local physio, but as already noted, it usually gets easier as you go on.
Good luck!
You will get stronger, but also you need to make sure your technique isn't responsible. You can't afford to work through strained or inflammed joints.
But remember that the effect is exacerbated by build up of metabolites and inflammatory products too, it is not just wear and tear, tired muscles etc. Not only do these toxins cause pain, they slow recovery.
Epsom salts baths make an enormous difference. My part-time job is very tough on the hands, to keep them in good order and maintain the fine control and sensitivity I need in my main occupation, epsom salts baths are unbeatable. I tend to use a lot more than the conservative amounts suggested on the web (2kg instead of 2 cups for a bath). Not a substitute for good technique and self care, of course!
