RE: A Disconcerting Move

Don't worry about this, it really isn't worth the agony. Your teacher is not your examiner and it is highly unlikely that an examiner will mark you down for doing a slightly different linking move to everyone else, as long as you know the move you are doing and why. ITEC does not have a massage sequence that must be followed and so the move is not compulsory or standard and it is unlikely your examiner will know your teachers sequence. When I was learning we were reminded that if we do something wrong or out of sequence in the exam, just keep going, if you try and go back you will draw more attention to yourself. Practical exams are all about confidence and if you or your client are uncomfortable during the treatment this will show through. Ask to see a copy of the assessment sheet for the exam, this will show you how your points are calculated and it should reassure you (if I have one I'll type up the breakdown).

Half the time students can't remember every little bit of the sequences anyway. Really don't worry.

Hope you are not doing VTCT Swedish Body Massage, cause when I did it, the acutal sequence which was done with our tutor, we were tested with her twice, before another exminer came for the final test on the massage sequence, but we had to pass all three, by that time everybody just followed her example because we all wanted to pass, regardless whether we like her method or not.

I'd agree with everyone here, you're doing a treatment for someone and as a professional therapist you will have to make judgement calls about what feels right and appropriate. If there is a movement you feel is a bit inappropriate just say you're uncomfortable doing it as it is and will do this - it wont spoil the treatment - above all else, you both need to feel comfortable with the treatment given.
