Hi guys

I don't often post, but i need to rant. I Would greatly appreciate feedback from anyone who can shed some light or anyone who has experienced this.

I recently sat my ITEC reflex Dip, i gained a credit but was only given a pass on my certificate! The reason being, i've been told by my college (i had to ask them)....because i sat my previous body massage, swedish, a&p etc with VTCT!!! AND no matter what grade i got i would only ever be eligable for a pass as VTCT is not graded, ITEC can never know how well i scored so can only give a pass! I can't believe it, how was i never made aware of this?? how DARE ITEC, i feel so let down, all the hard work and hours upon hours of typing, preparing case studies, fretting over exams and working bloody hard for the past year for this to happen :( I know alot of people say its the passing that counts, and it is, but lets be honest about it, IT SUCKS!! It did take some of the excitment out of recieving my results, sadly, I feel its very, very unfair!

So, onto my next question, lol, what happens IF i take another course with ITEC? will the same thing happen?? had i known this would be the outcome at the beginning of the course i would have studied with VTCT again to spare the stress!!

and 1, 2, 3,........Breathe!

Hope someone can help
Thanks for listening, i feel a little better

Hi Clarice08,

I can understand your frustration, but, please let this go. I've been working as a Bodyworker for over 12yrs with only a 63% pass in my original A&P exam (just scraped in with 3% over the pass mark). Your marks don't mean as much within complementary therapy because it's not an intellectual subject, it's the practical application of your knowledge and client communication that counts. As far as I'm aware all the high pass marks in my class went to therapists who are no longer practising.

The important thing is how you apply your knowledge within your practise not the knowledge it self. You passed and that's ALL that matters!! You will not be judged by your pass marks but, by your trade test!!

All the good Doctors, Nurses and Therapists you've ever had interaction with you remember by their warmth, compassion and understanding and all the not so good ones you remember because of their lack of these qualities. It's how you apply your knowledge that counts.

I hope this helps.

Go well, Sue

Having done things round the other way (ITEC for A,P&M and Aromatherapy then VTCT for Indian Head and will be doing Reflex in September) I have to say we did A&P in more detail than seems to come under VTCT, but I've never heard of what has happened to you happening to anyone else - and have to agree it totally sucks! I would have thought if ITEC thought your VTCT A&P would be lacking then surely your tutor should have been advised of this when you were being registered and then at least you could have "made up" any ITEC percieved deficite in your A&P. If it was me I would be appealing.... you have worked just as hard at this course as any of your peers and if you have gained a Credit then you should have a Credit....

Thanks guys, both your replies have helped. I know its about how you practice etc, i do think i deserve the grade i scored as i worked as hard as most people, the past year has been tough, lost my mother-in law and father in the same week in Aug and came so close to giving up but i just couldn't as i knew i'd regret it deeply and life had to go on. It may seem slightly trivial to be bothered so much about an exam result but we're all the same, when we work hard at something and do well in life we want to be able to celebrate and give ourselves a pat on the back, it's human nature after all. I'm going to college tomorrow to speak to my tutor, also going to call ITEC today, so fingers crossed, will keep you posted, thanks again ladies x x x
