RE: Nuclear energy

There was a very long thread on all this, or on wind power, many months ago. To my surprise, many people disliked wind farms. From my many stays in Denmark, I love them. I find them really beautiful, as if they are a part of nature itself. In Denmark they also have some kind of system whereby a local community can own a small windfarm and obtain all their power needs from it - so they don't need the national grid and don't pay into it. That's a great idea too IMO. The people have independence.

RE: Nuclear energy

Yes Venetian, I also think the look of a wind farm is beautifull.

I will let you know, the US was about to put a Nuclear plant North of Washington, just south of British Columbia. We flipped out! The power plants are dangerous, and as many have mentioned have long term pollution and plain badness.
British Columbia already uses hydro electrics (water) as a major source of energy. Im sure many of you know of this.

Wecould have huge hydro electric stations in the middle of the ocean sending electricity via wireless transmission (as Tesla devised). Actually, with Tesla's towers, he figured out a way to send wireless electricity across the entire planet so that anoyone could tap into it from anywhere. But, because the government could not measure the amount use, and could not make money from it, the ended up using power lines.

Tesla's discoveries are a real shock, lol! He was a spritual man and a Yogi, and he invented the 21st century. If Tesla was alive today, he would be the richest man in the world.

RE: Nuclear energy

Hi E,

Windfarms are certainly IMO great as they give power but do no harm at all. I wasn't aware that you are in the US - so I should explain there was a major lobby here in the UK last year saying they were ugly and a blot on the landscape, so local government found it almost impossible to create too many more. Their plans got blocked.I really disagree with that lobby. Goodness - would they rather have global warming??

I'm really not an expert in power needs and sources, but suspect our government and yours might say, and may be correct, that such sources wouldn't supply all the power needed. Therefore, to avoid fossil fuels, if we are materialistic and don't believe in New Age answers, nuclear is the only option they have left.

So the point is that asap governments really do have to start taking another look at things like Cold Fusion, Tesla, etc. That just has to be done.

As an aside, I'm also in favour of not putting all eggs in one basket.

(For example, in the UK the whole nation was held to ransom in the 1970sfirst by the Middle East - the Saudis -who boosted the price of oil many-fold, and then by coal mining unions who went on strike, and this resulted in the whole nation having to cut back on activity and go into a 3-day working week with planned power cuts inthe eveningto save energy through winter. (I studied for exams by candle-light!!!)

So I'm also in favour of a 'spread' of sources, so we aren't reliant upon just one right now. That might continue to mean a bit of fossil fuel, a bit of nuclear, etc., but only a minimum. Just so we don't get exposed or held to ransom again.

RE: Nuclear energy

Hello David,

Yes, I remember this lobby about windfarms. A certain few said that they didn't want them, and that was that. Nothing more. This survey must only have been open to a select few, because nobody asked me what I thought about them. If I had been asked, I would have welcomed them with open arms. I think a lot of opposition emanates from the National Grid and they not wanting to change.

I think that sooner or later, the Govt are going to have to reconsider. Tesla made some great progress and that too, should be looked into. Nuclear power should be a very last resort. There was a debate about it on 'Question Time' last night, so at last people are willing to talk about alternative forms of power.

I agree. We should not be putting all our eggs into one basket. Like you, I remember trying to complete my school homework by candlelight in the 1970's. Not good.

Love,
Patsy.

Patsy, hi,

Yes. For me it was A-levels by candlelight. Shakespeare for God's sake. LOL. I remember my eyes streaming with water from eye-strain. ButI got it, English Lit etc.

Teslais such a huge issue and I agree to all on that. If his work was followed up on, it might literally change the world. Why don't governments actually do it? There may be a minor aspect of conspiracy e.g. oil companies trying to protect their income; but basically I think it's sheer naivety. I mean, do we really believe that Tony Blair or George Bush have even heard the very name, Tesla? I doubt it! So it will take, one day, a very revolutionary leader, somewhere, to start this off. Just to start it off in one nation will suffice - then others will have to follow when the positive results come in.
