Hello All,
The debate on nuclear energy has once again been re-ignited. Whilst it is a form of cleaner fuel, it is very expensive and can be very, very dangerous.
What are others' views?
Love,
Patsy.

RE: Nuclear energy
Hi Patsy,
I see that Mr Blair is about to sign the dotted line again and commit us to more Nuclear Power Stations. In a channelling some months ago I was given a message that we should be looking to get our power from the motion of the sea, it's power can be tapped 24 hours of the day and we are surrounded by powerful tidal and wave currents along our coast. It may be a hundred years away at this point in time as the research necessary to create this type of construction is still on the fringes of scientific engineering. It's a shame but that is life at this point in time.

RE: Nuclear energy
I'm no expert on energy sources and how much each can provide. I probably learned quite a bit in earlier threads but now have forgotten it again...
IMO we should get absolutely as much energy as possible from renewable sources such as wind, waves / tides, etc. I haven't read the papers on this but my guess is that Blair is saying even then we need more energy and can't rely on fossil fuels? So given reality there might be a need for nuclear stations - but IMO that's only because totally new sources of energy - the kind that New Agers believe in and conspiracy magazines discuss - haven't been used, researched better, or accepted.
If I were PM I'd first use all the wind and wave power I could, then put programmes in place to look for New Ageish 'energy from nowhere' and Cold Fusion (which from my reading isn't disproved at all and is being researched privately in many nations). Only thirdly would I use nuclear energy - it is an awful thing with present and long-term dangers.
An interesting question for the ecologically-minded is which is better: nuclear or fossil fuels? An ecologist would probably answer "Just use less fuel!" - however that isn't going to happen.

RE: Nuclear energy
Hi All
I completely agree with publisher and venetian we need to find cleaner and safer forms of energy and it seems to me that time is running out it might not be our lifetimes but our children might have to suffer the consequences of the governments lazy attitude toward our energy crises.
I have recently moved from the South Wales valleys everybody up there wants cleaner cheaper fuel (Wind Farms) but the attitude is"not in my valley", we need to stand up and be counted, if we do not, then we will leave the planetmore messed up for the next generation.
RE: Nuclear energy
Hello Shoney,
Yes, I am in full agreement that we should be making more of our natural power of wind, water, solarand other natural forces, e.g. volcanic, although the latter might prove a little destructive! :DNuclear power should be used as a last resort, as David says.
I personally like the views of wind farms. Those windmills look so stark, silentand spooky. I would not mind if they sprang up near me; at least I'd be reassured that the National Grid was using renewable energy. Fossil fuels and natural gas, oil and petroleum will be exhausted in a few years; it isn't going to happen during our childrens' lifetimes, it's going to happen within our own lifetimes if we don't find solutions to this problem. It is my belief that more people would use renewable power if it was as cheap as fossil fuel power.
Nuclear fuel is a cleaner option than that which we have at present, but as David points out, it is far too costly to the pocket as well as the environment in the long run.
Publisher - wave power will have to be used eventually. Hopefully not too long in the future.
Love,
Patsy.
