Ministry of Defence files on UFOs, covering the years from 1987 to the start of the 1990s, are being released.

In particular, there's a sighting from 1990 which had the MoD so concerned that their investigation took over a year and was referred to ministers. For once they looked at the sighting with regard to national security, which is not usual policy on UFOs.

I'm just posting this here for those interested. Some on HP have mocked UFO threads, and I do agree that photographic evidence is always unconvincing (even if it's real). TBH, to really get a taste for the amount of evidence out there, you have to not just look at the odd photo, but read books and witness-accounts. For example, a photo of a disc can laughingly be passed off as a "thrown hubcap" ... but not if you read the whole report, which may include scores of witnesses in different locations, keenly sincere-sounding interviews perhaps with deep expressions of fear, radar verification, and scrambled jets or police also seeing the object. Normally on HP, given the medium, there's little to read and it's photo-based just as an item of interest.

Also check out the links to the left on this link: possibly the first UFO photograph, from 1870, and David Cameron admitting that there are alien beings, and that one is presently within the Government's Cabinet!.... I tend to agree.

[COLOR="Blue"]Declassified government files have revealed how Ministry of Defence (MoD) officials launched a top-level probe into a diamond shaped aircraft seen hovering above a Scottish village.

BTW, it's not unusual for untraceable military aircraft - jets or helicopters, to accompany UFO sightings.

The Sunday Telegraph also reports that so far in 2009, reports of UFO sightings are up three times on the monthly average...

Thanks to Principled for the link.

P.S.

I wrote above:

Having now read around this latest release of files a little more, there's a fair bit of comment today that the MoD took some sightings seriously as a threat to security, as they didn't know if these were some form of new stealth-aircraft threat from Russia, or even being tested here unknown to us, by the USA. This idea is fair enough. In other words, the MoD may well have been concerned about threats from humans, not aliens.

However, the 1990 sighting of a "diamond-shaped" (almost certainly actually a saucer-shape seen edge on) UFO along with Harriers, that the link above focusses on, describes a craft which was of enormous size in relation to the strange Harriers, had no wings at all, hovered without moving for minutes, including while the Harriers were there, and then suddenly shot up vertically at enormous speed. I seriously doubt that we have such a craft on earth that's humanly-made even now, let alone nineteen years ago.
