RE: Meteor shower
Maybe I'll give it a go tonight. Heck, I have a nerve trapped in my neck so can't look up, but I could lie in a field. All the same, nothing would ever compare with the most incredible aurora borealis I saw which lasted all night long around the Scottish border but also south of there in 1994. It filled the whole sky, changed by the second, and you could read a book in its light. It literally filled the whole sky from top to bottom, so I don't ever expect to see anything better than that.
I've also tended to live in towns and cities. But I visit a place in the middle of nowhere in Denmark. To my surprise, if you are really well away from city lights, these days you can see satellites pasing overhead all the time, quite a number per night, as they catch the sun below the horizon.

RE: Meteor shower
dont hold your breath to catch this because up north we have had rain all day and overcast and we do seem to miss all the good things that happen in the night sky
RE: Meteor shower
I saw ONE!!
yes, just one shooting star / meteorite, last night around 11pm. the sky(I have a good view as I live on top of a hill) was quite clear, for about 30 minutes. I looked up, waited, then saw one, was very happy, waited a bit more, got bored and cold and got to bed!
Read in my meteorite magazine last night that after midnight it should be easier to see something.
Also that this last week (from last monday to about friday) we were at the lowest point in the moon curve (and Neptune too)...meaning the Earth was at its closest pointto the moon for a long time (and to Neptune, on thursday).
Wednesday and Thursday was also Full Moon.
God! that explains why I felt so tired, prone to headachesand apathic recently!!
if anyone knows better than I do about the subject please enlighten me, this is the first time I try to decifer a planetary sky map!
RE: Meteor shower
i just saw my first shooting star of the year! i will go to sleep happy tonight 🙂
unfortunately it got too cloudy after about 20 mins which was a shame cos it's been a clear sky all evening and i thought i'd be able to see loads!
