I recently watched a BBC documentry about a man called Aubrey de Grey. He is a computer engineer turned geneticist. He belives that we can extened to human life forever. He does this in various ways, here is a link that will explain it all [facanatingly amazing]:[DLMURL] http://www.sens.org/media.htm [/DLMURL]
He thinks we can prolong humans life almost indefinalty, rather like repearing a car!?!?
Any wayz, i thought that this might interest some people, so i posted it. If any of you have and opionions, thenplease post back! 😉
Cheers all, bye!
RE: Live indefinalty...Possilbe?Probable?
I heard a radio broadcast recently on this topic. Radio 4 or Radio Scotland, can't remember ... must be my age 😀
The general thrust was that the technology to reverse ageing and extend the average lifespan to 1000 years was less than 30 years away.
Raises loads of moral questions, but some fascinating quanderies - the planet can't support the present population having an elite group living for a 1000 years is highly questionable - who would be allowed this 'honour'?
What would it cost, the world's economic model would need to change, - education would be a constant processs as you keep up with technologies. your working life would be 600 years - can modern 'civilisations' survive that long - what new breakthroughs would there be if leading scientists were active in their fields for centuries.
For me it might even mean I actually master Tai Chi!
Downside just came to mind - think of all the different layers of voluntary self-regulation that would crop up in that time [:@].

This is, of course, the stuff that sci-fi books are made of - one consideration of this problem and possible side effects is in the Red Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson.

The man behind this reaserch states that when the technology is develpoed [however long that may be] the governemtn will have a olbigationb to supply the public with with it as a standerd thing, justlike oging for a check up. NO governtent will be alectig without it haveing this in its manofesto. Plus the government will do this becuase of the economical reasons.
But alas, there the technology will enveitabley leak onto the 'black market' and, as u said, there could an elite lot of people within the organized crime buisness. However, this advancement wont leave people inderstuctable, crime loards can still be assinated. What is scary is i'm only 18, so in my life time they predict that every year that is currently passing, an extra year will be added to my life. So, i will see all this's**t go down', but hay thats life, evoluotion!
Cheers all bye 😀
RE: Live indefinalty...Possilbe?Probable?
Seriously, why would anyone like to have such a long lifespan?
If we all should live hundreds of years we have to forbid having children. And, who would like to clean the house for hundreds of years? The idéa is disgusting.
