Crystal Rose.. couldn't agree with you more.. for the amount of money spent on the LHC, we could put the money to better use elsewhere.. like helping communities around the world become more self sufficient and sustainable.

The answers to questions surrounding the big bang are not through technical advancement but through the truth that is in ourselves and our links to the Universe.

Compare the amount of money spent there to the dizzylions for other stuff like warfare, in effect killing each other. And here the problems are beginning, nobody knows the basic mathematics. Add eg 100€ to an average income of a thousand, that 10% surplus, or the 1.1-fold. Try this with doubling, ..for example one million times 10! ..or 100 millions!! get my drift? Before i go and mention even crazier, outraging facts, be sure, science is our only hope (in this time) when in the hands of responsible wizards. That LHC by-the-by is a sure bet, mean no threat. Another interesting actuality is, ca 50% of all electric gadgets rely on quantumphysics and is a giant force on the market. Plus, teflon pans are about the only thing which were not an outcrop of space-science. Some more, they planned that kind-of-wonder and waited for it 4 30 years.

Katmint - we would be better off spending money on helping people who can barely feed themselves. Just as some organisations have made attempts to help developing countries become more sustainable. Introducing better Education facilities and irrigation and farming techniques so communities can become more independent and feel positive that they are able to work producitively as a community less reliant on UN/charitable aid. Many of these communities have wonderful, traditional skills, often creative so we should be encouraging and supporting them and trading with them at a true and fair price. To me, this is money better spent.

Well, in the current climate, let's put some reality perspective on it. The experiment has cost 6 Billion Dollars, which is (at todays conversion rate) 3.46 Billion UK pounds. Now consider the UK government has just paid out 38 Billion pounds to help out the banks in a matter of days; that's more than 10x the amount spend on the years of research and development that has gone into the LHC project and not all of the money for that project came from the UK as it's a joint venture between many countries. Yes, the money could have been spent elsewhere, but would it really have improved those things or would it have just been firefighting the symptoms rather than trying to help find the cause... and... as already mentioned above, without all the money being spent on these sciences we wouldn't even be talking to each other on an internet or have computers. By the laws of supply and demand, the fact that you are all using computers means that you have all put in demand for these science experiments to take place.

Now there's somehting to think about...

what was it called in former times, when the farmers changed their crop from season to the next? six-or seven-field economy. Got it from a reliable source, there are several reasons not to sow rice. It's roughly the worst one could do to the ground, e.g. flood it for half a year, let it rot. In a handful of earth 1oo ooo worms are living... Merlin's basics: the land and you are one. Without that all the rest is being done in vain. The most underrated fact, also by me for a time, there are nearly seven billions peoples say. ....bio-fuel, cattle all over the show (esp. sheep, bah;.) .. holy rat/cow in India. Someone knows what happened to Sahara?..

With advanced science then one gets so much useful information. Take away that knowledge, almost nothing would remain.
One example is satellite-technique so chic.
Planet-watch! (Weather, Oceans, Surveillance) Navigating, finding, rescueing; Communications!

On planning LHC they apparently made a mistake, namely with a cable, underestimated the current flowing ... Since then knowledge have increased expon..exceptionally and this in all categories, like material-research, medicine (ambivalent; talk about illness and nothing else, the doctors will gain) about now finding the most astounding legerdemains in Nature, Lotus-Effect, Colours, Spinwebs, ...anyway, all the treasures from the deep-sea, forests ... just everything is there to learn from. Birch-bark for soap, bamboo as a universal ..thingy.

Hey, even the clouds are alive!!! !!!!
