The Large Hadron Collider is being switched on tomorrow. Beams of protons will be accelerated up to 99.999999 per cent of the speed of light. When they smash together, they will generate concentrations of energy resembling those that occurred during the first trillionth of a second after the Big Bang. Hopefully without the explosion!
I don't know if anything will occur during the first day or quite how it all works. Should be interesting seeing what, if anything, is newly discovered.

I heard on the radio that it will be switched on tomorrow, that beams will be generated but that they won't be directed at each other - that isn't scheduled to happen until later, November if I remember correctly, so the end of the world isn't nigh just yet 😉

According to the newspapers (not always reliable) if you are reading the paper at 0831 British time today, then a Black Hole will not have swallowed you up. Switch on 0830.
Just in time to avoid the school run mum's.
