I am totally amazed that anyone would believe ANYTHING they read in the Sun, let alone buy a copy of the rag.

xxx

Nose in the air, huh? :p The third time you've jaunted off about my reading, Mrs. S,:p though the first time was two years ago and re an excellent book by the now-late Michael Crichton. Headlines sometimes attract me, so I'm not stuck to any one paper or genre of book.

But yeah, the explanation above seems right. It just doesn't look like a city. Isn't that a pity, though? Personally, I have a sense of wonder.

Talking of a sense of wonder, you should have seen the rag's page 3! 😮 (Just kidding - I tend not to look and haven't seen the Sun for a year. :p)

The Sun was not responsible for the story, and seeing that grid on Page 1 was certainly eye-catching! (How silly to map the ocean floor, then, by a method which so shows up your own boats' sonar-trails!

But as for the source, The Sun in this case: after all, the greatest-ever UK case of a UFO encounter - at Rendlesham USAF Air Base, East Anglia - (repeated landings outside a nuclear base, and the Deputy Base Commander scared out of his wits on his recorded audio) turned out to be quite corrobarative, with dozens of servicemen, the public, and British police involved. It's led to many deep books of research ... yet it was first broken in News of The World!

I'm surprised nobody gave the coordinates for it so it was more easily found...

If you're using google maps just put

"31.353637, -24.345703" into the search bar, search and then you may have to zoom out a little bit till you get the image.

If you're using google earth then just use the above coordinates to locate it (coordinates are shown at the bottom of the google earth screen, first one being "N" and the second one being "W")

😉

I don't believe it's atlantis myself. Why would there be such uniform trenches left from it and why haven't those trenches filled up with silt after all these years? How come there isn't more disturbance from the hilly bits that have appeared within the 'structure'? Intruiging, yes, Atlantis, no.

Hi Giles,

I'm a 'believer' in Atlantis myself, but that leaves one having to explain where it is and why there's no sign at all. Accoding to a kind of occult geology begun by James Chuchward (he says he got it from ancient tablets held in monasteries) there's a form of absolute cataclysmic event on a scale not even known to geologists: an entire tectonic plate can suddenly rise, or fall, or tilt. So Atlantis could have gone quickly, usually said to have been c. 10,500 BC. Interestingly there was no Gulf Stream before then, so Europe had an Ice Age. Well, there wouldn't be a Gulf Stream would there, as Atlantis was in the way. With Atlantis gone, ocean currents changed, and Europe was warmed.

Tiachuanaco in the Andes is also mysterious, as it's (if I recall just right) 12,500 feet above sea level, yet has the remains of a very large port. Some say the local lake came that far, but occult belief has it that South America tilted fully that far, the West rising, the East coast sinking into the Atlantic.

Can't prove it of course, but it's an interesting thought. Churchward's books have a whole detailed science of geology different to ours, and about what lies deeper under the earth.

Don't get me wrong, I believe there was likely somewhere that was Atlantis, I just don't think that what is seen on google is it. 😉

As for the land masses rising and falling, that's perfectly possible. It's what geologists use to explain the way the UK is, because as the ice age melted northwards the weight of ice on the upper part of the UK caused the south to rise up, hence all the cliffs and fossils being brought up etc.

No problem. As I wrote before, it really doesn't look like a city or a nation, and all your points are valid. It's just that the photos initially grabbed me and made me wonder. They don't look natural for sure - but then according to the sonar explanation, they aren't.

[But if shipping courses and their sonar caused the lines to appear, how come they don't always, I wonder?]
