Scientists have discovered what look like circular holes leading into dark caves on mars. The holes don't seem to be asteroid impacts because they have no raised rim, and as the holes appear completely black it seems they must be very deep with vertical or even overhanging walls. Scientists have speculated that these seemingly deep caves might be better suited to life as further down where the planet is hotter the conditions needed for liquid water might be possible. They may also be useful for future manned missions to mars as they could provide shelter for the astronaughts.
I hope there is a mission being planned to visit these holes and see what they really are, they sound very interesting.
RE: "Holes" on Mars
That's interesting, RichRef, but we only have your word on it unless in your post you give a net link or published source. In other words, give sources! 😉
RE: "Holes" on Mars
Sure, here's a link to the article on space.com 🙂

Eidt: For some reason the forum is starring out the numbers after the 0, so replace the four starswith 6 0 5 and you'll have the link.
RE: "Holes" on Mars
Thanks, Ref! (Not often I've said that. :D)
Fascinating.
This is the HP Science forum, not the paranormal or speculation part of HP. But the hole reminds me of stories I've read asserting that UFOs have bases on Mars. That amazing hole - and it is so round - would be a perfect entrance and exit ....... 😮
RE: "Holes" on Mars
No problem.
I think its unlikely that there is an alien race living there, but you never know! 🙂
