Has anyone else been keeping an eye on the latest comet that has been floating around the skys for the past few weeks? It is pretty bright here in Australia. I'd have to say that it is the brightest comet I have ever seen.
RE: Has anyone seen Comet McNaught?
My friends tried in Canada but the sky was too heavy apparently. Lyn

I suppose I could always google this, but why not ask here on HP on behalf of others? What part of the night sky is it in? I mean, in what constellation? And importantly for many of us ;), do you know if it is only visible in the southern hemisphere right now?
I haven't seen it and am in a city right now (though the last bright comet could be seen from within this city if you got a low horizon without too many buildings). In a few weeks I'll be excellently sited to have a look if it's not limited to the southern hemisphere.

Answering my own question I did just go to google. Plenty of info there. It's visible from the very city I'm in, so thanks for the heads up!

From a quick read, I gather that in the northern hemisphere we can only see it just around or after sunset, and as the sky lights up in the morning again - not through most of the night.

It was visible in the South East at dawn and dusk - a friend spotted it over Edinburgh from her vantage point in Fife, early one morning last week. There is more about it on the BBC News website [link= http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/6251663.stm ]http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/6251663.stm[/link]
