And you make a fair point on written welsh - I've found that it's increasingly common among people to just mis-spell everything, as their language as a spoken word bears no resemblance to the more formal Welsh when it is written. It's sad, but there's nothing we can do about it!

My grandparents on one side of my family were from Wales, I also lived in a tiny village near Caernarfon (note that's not the English spelling!) for a while and then moved to an even smaller village near Pant Glas / Garndolbenmaen for a while. I do have a (albeit basic) understanding of Welsh and my wife was taught Gaelic (Irish) by an Irish friend of ours. It would be nice to brush up on my Welsh and some regional posts in Welsh with the translations would be nice to see a) Because some of us can brush up a bit and b) I feel the Welsh language does need to be kept alive. However, as Hol said, the translations should be on here so that people who read this thread and can't speak Welsh (shame on you if you live there!) can still take part in the discussion. Also, keeping posts in Welsh as concise as possible, longer ones would be better held as conversations by PM.

Initially, the thought of long threads in Welsh was a bit daunting, which is why the original suggestion was made to use the PM system.
However, the moderators have now conferred further and confirming Bannick's post, we feel it would be of benefit to our Welsh members to discuss and use the Welsh language on this forum, with PMs as you consider appropriate.
So by all means feel free to hold conversation provided that, as already requested, translations into English are given. It should be very interesting to read!

Gosh, I haven't written Welsh since school - although I'm not so bad at reading - as you say the spelling tends to get to the level of slang!!!
It;s like someone said earlier - I count myself as being first language Welsh throughout my childhood and don't remember having to learn either Welsh or English 0 using both naturally. Having been away from Wales on and off throught my adult life - the written language tends to get very rusty!
