Thank you all so much, Mum has recovered well from the operation and her leg is now pink and healthy. Unfortunately she has now developed a further embolism in her left arm and is on her way to theatre again.

They have also found that the left side of her heart is not functioning fully and she has a calcified valve, so is very poorly indeed. She is however, keeping the ward very entertained with her dry humour, so although she is suffering from dementia, she is, as a surgeon said to us 'nicely confused'.

Will update once I know more.

With love

Crabapple - have been watching this thread to see how your Mum is doing. I hope on the road to recovery now, how are you and Oakey coping? Its been such a hard time for you over the last months.....

Take care of yourself won't you?

Just come back from visiting her in hospital, medically she is doing really well, the clot in her arm was dispersed using heparin and then she will be put on warfarin. She has a long way to go yet with physio to get her leg working, but it is her mental health that has really gone down hill now. She has gone from being a robust 83 year old to a 'little' frail old lady. I say 'little' because she must be about 20 stone!

I am hoping the worst is over now, I was dreadfully low on Friday, but feel much brighter today. Dad's funeral is on Wednesday and hopefully we can then move on from there, but unfortunately my biggest regret is that Mum will not be able to attend. However, she thinks that the funeral has been and gone..so knows no different.

As for Oakey, he is truly my rock, I don't know what I would have done without him through all this. I think it suddenly all hit him on Friday as he woke me in the middle of the night to talk it all through. We are strong together, and lean on each other, although I have probably leaned a little more recently.

Anyway, thanks for caring Celia, and for everyone else who has sent their love and healing, you are all a truly wonderful bunch.

Love

Crabapple xx
