What we all think about Japan is, as posted before, without a doubt a "given". So it's hard to know what to add: we all see the news.

But it has created this sub-text on the power of prayer, the science of prayer, "if" it works, and how to work it. No hurry, but that could be an interesting new thread sometime.

While walking just now, I did wonder if there are some things which, once the time comes, just can't be averted? It's just part of a larger Plan we don't know of? (I don't want to use the word 'karma' as who knows if it is or isn't?)

I agree that people who bemoan a Deity just don't understand that it's never the Will of the One for these things to happen.

I've often witnessed prayer work. At least IMHO. In my personal life for sure. But also globally. It's a bit of a way back so may be too far back for some HP subscribers to recall. But there was a time when the Middle East was basically continually at war. I mean, not just terrorism, but true war - Israel being attacked conventionally in warfare by several surrounding nations, Egypt being the most powerful. Like the Cold War at the time, it seemed as though it would go on forever. It seemed impossible to envisage how it could end.

Completely out of the blue, so unexpected, my large global group received a "heads up" to pray for President Anwar Sadat, then of Egypt. (Was this about 1981?) I didn't even know why. But thousands of us did. Would you believe it - within about three days he unilaterally got on a plane and flew to Israel, almost without warning or their expectation of him. It was almost as though he landed, got off the plane, and said, "I am here, to talk". He landed, met the government there, and just simply made peace. He didn't ask for major concessions, he literally went and said, "Let there be peace". No one in the world had expected this. Without Egypt involved, no other surrounding nation could realistically attack Israel in open warfare, as used to be the pattern. That peace (in open warfare, not re terrorism) has continued to this day, about three decades now.

(Sadat was soon after assassinated by Muslims for what he had done, but the peace still holds.)

That to me was just one example of prayer working in extraordinary ways on the world scene. We can do the same for Japan.

Just some of my thoughts on the Japan and prayer discussion.I too believe our continued prayers are so important for the situation in Japan.

Initially i had similar thoughts to Venetian and wondered what exactly to pray for as I could not pray for it not to happen. I chose to pray and send healing for specific things I also light a candle for each prayer. Each day I have prayed for people to have food and shelter, families to find each other, missing people to be found, aid and medicine to be available and for the power plant not to release nuclear energy and worsen the situation.

I am sure there is so much more that Japan needs but i believe that my prayers are more effective when focussed and directed.

It is not possible to see if our prayers have been effective but like others I have faith that they have.

I know that many wish they could physically be there to help so maybe if you ask angels/spirit guides to take you there when you sleep/meditate it might just be possible for us to do that.
