RE: Your best 5 green tips?

what a fab idea!

successes:
i) buying veg from a local, organic farmshop
ii) using Freecycle / eBay / charity shops for getting rid of my unwanted stuff
iii) using washable pads for moontime
iv) using soapnuts / ecover for laundry
v) making my own cleaning products
vi) growing veggies - tomatoes, runner beans, potatoes, courgettes in particular and lots of herbs
vii) set up a food co-op and use that to buy staple foods in bulk
viii) cook most food from scratch and eat organic / fairtrade where possible

needs more work:
i) I could do more to harvest and preserve the goddies from our garden rather than let it rot into the ground [:-]
ii) need more energy saver lightbulbs and I'm constantly nagging at the rest of the family to turn off the lights. But I love candles and dimmer switches!
iii) forget to turn things off standby
iv) too much reliance on the car
v) I eat loads of yogurt and I'm too lazy to make it, so I buy from the supermarket and end up throwing the plastic pots away.
vi) I tend to throw more wood on the fire rather than put on an extra layer of clothes (does anyone else hate sleeves around their wrists, or am I just a weirdo :D)

really inspiring thread - thanks!

Hi Amethystcave

v) I eat loads of yogurt and I'm too lazy to make it, so I buy from the supermarket and end up throwing the plastic pots away.

I make my own yoghurt and it is very quick and easy, and brilliant for toning the upper arms, I bought an easiyo yoghurt system from Julian Graves and it is fantastic you can also get it here [link= http://www.yoghurtdirect.co.uk/ ]http://www.yoghurtdirect.co.uk/[/link]and lots of other places if you type in easiyo.

The yoghurt is really yummy and has lots of friendly bacteria x

RE: Your best 5 green tips?

Successful

1 Recycle glass, card, plastic, paper and plastic (although my local council is making this very hard for me to do so)
2 Low energy light bulbs (have them in every room and have done for 10 years)
3 Switched to gas and electricity that comes from a green source
4 Soapods and essential oils for fragrancing my clothes in the wash.
5 Ecover products
6 Making aromatherapy oil sprays instead of using air fresheners
7 Turning off all electrical appliances
8 Use public transport daily
9 Use vegan soap and shampoo
10 Re use gift bags when given
11 Using cat litter made from recycled paper
12 Buying clothes from and giving old clothes to charity shops, also giving old magazines to charity shops

Unsucessful

1 Having problems finding clothes on the high street that are ethical
2 Having to shop in large supermarkets as little other choice where I live

RE: Your best 5 green tips?

Hi [sm=wave.gif]
Great thread and thanks for the heads up on the freecycle site, i didnt know about it before but what a good idea and there is 2 local to me that i can join.

Success:

1) Recycling glass, plastic, paper, tin, cardboard and plastic bags.

2) Composting.

3)Turning everything off.

4) Using olive oil, lemon juice, vinegar, bicarb etc as cleaning products.

5) Some slight success in growing my own herbs and some veg, but have a lot to learn!

Unsuccessful:

1) Going to the supermarket as our local shop is so expensive.

2) Always forget to take my bag for life to the shops and end up with more plastic bags to recycle!

3) Low energy lightbulbs.

4) Use tissues instead of washable hankie, it would really gross me out too much!

5) Training my husband to be more green, he undoes all the good i try to do!

Love and light

Hi holisticheaven,

do you know if the easiyo works with taking some old yogurt to start it off instead of getting the new culture?

Anything that tones my arms is good - that's why I love baking bread and cakes by hand 😀
