Help needed please. [&:]
I decided to make the shampoo/ liquid soap with my soapnuts. Found a reommendation to simmer them with water - did 'em for about 40 mins, and that you ould then liquidise 'em to further enrich the liquor - so I did. Ended up with a liquidisor full of froth which I couldn't decant/ seive into bottles until the next morning when it had settled into mostly watery liquid with a bit of foamy gunk on top. So I seived the bits out which also took the gunk out. [:'(] Ended up with 1/2 the origional ammount of water.
I've tried using the resulting liquid as a shampoo (added a few drops of essential oils) - I've used it twice now and I'm not at all sure whether it's cleaned my hair or not - it doesn't create ANY lather at all and I suspect I've just poured diluted essential oils over my head and then rinsed it out. Certainly no squeek when rinsing (- though I'm not sure whether that's a healthy state to acheive). Been using SLS free shamppos for some time now but I've never before tried just rinsing my hair instead of washing it so don't know if that would acheive the cleanliness that I have acheived. 😉
Anyone else tried soapnuts for shampoo and have I done something wrong?
RE: Soapnutters! Shampoo making?
Hi
I have sed soapnuts - and it is fantastic. Take 8-10 soapnuts put some water in it and boil it till soapnuts are soft. Let it cool then squeeze the juice out of soap nut and remove the pits and skin. Wet your hair and pour little soapnut water and rinse your hair with it, you will get lots of foam like shampoo then clean it with water. Your hair will feel very silky and clean. I dont use any oils but if u feel like u can use.

v. quick as I am in a hurry. It is chemical foaming agents that produce so much lather and we have all been coned into thinking we need them to clean.
natural products such as soapnuts / soapwort will produce a tiny, sometimes not noticeable if your water is hard, amount of soft lather.
Certainly no squeek when rinsing
hooray! I think of that 'squeak' we are all told we need more of a 'SCREAM" from our hair that we have stripped out the oils. The sign of a good product is that there is no squeak i.e. it is not harsh and stripping.
I've done lots of things other than use a shop-bought shampoo in my time - I'll post up more later if you are interested.

OOh this is interesting.
I know nothing about using natural products for shampoo or shower gels etc. I use natural products for cleaning my home and I would love to know what i can use for my hair/body that is chemical free.
Would love you to post more info please Amethyst.:D

RE: Soapnutters! Shampoo making?
MMMM, I think I must have thrown the good bit away with the liquidised gunk! 🙁 - will try again with Astha's suggestion of squeezing the soap nuts out atfter boiling instead of liquidising them, to get the best bit out.
Mega foam doesn't bother me, nor does the lack of squeak - as I say I have used SLS (for those who don't know - sodium lauryth sulphate = degreasing drain cleaner which is the primary ingredient in commercial shampoos etc!!) free products for a few years, but with my creation there was absolutely NO lather AT ALL!! 🙂
More ideas would be appreciated Amethystcave, thanks.
