Hi,

I've just started using my Bokashi composter. I am amazed at the weight of the vegetable peelings etc. I have been throwing out to go to landfill. I have two bins so that when one is fermenting I can use the other and always have one available.

I came across these quite by chance whilst browsing the intenet and wish I had known about it sooner. I'm really pleased with them. Got them on special offer on the internet £40 for the two! I'm hoping my local council will be offering cheap compost bins soon as it wont always be convenient to dig the Bokashi into the garden.

I have difficulty convincing my husband that we must recycle and compost more but he has taken to the Bokashi without saying 'B****** Rubbish" which is his usual comment when I do anything environmentally friendly!! A good step in the right direction! He still thinks my wonderful fortnightly organic vegetable box is a waste of money though he is happy to eat them!

Happy New Year!

Maggie xx

Hi Maggie - I saw these bins at the Edinburgh gardening show. Looked impressive. One of the demonstrators recommended storing the 'results' until ready to use, in a heap in a quiet corner of the garden, covered with a piece of old carpet to stop any weeds getting at it.
I'm saving up for a freestanding compost tumbler (made by Henchman) - it takes 350ltrs of waste and turns it into useable compost in 2-3 weeks!!! We already have 3 compost heaps, plus 2 that I got from the council.....

Hi,

I have now filled my first bucket so am now leaving it to ferment while I fill the second one. I drained off the liquid (which we have to do every couple of days) and used it on the drain in my bath. It really works!! The water was draining away very slowly but now, after two applications of the Bokashi liquid, it is draining much faster. That has to be better than putting a load of chemicals down to clear the drain.

The bucket does not smell at all and I feel good as I have prevented all that matter from going to landfill and my garden and drains will benefit. Winners all round!

Maggie:)
