this doesn't mean everything called the 'New Age' today is carrying on the intended direction of Theosophy
Agreed. Though Blavatsky is doubtless a highly important influence, she is not the only influence. In particular the New Thought movement (Quimby and his eventual successors) actually pre-dates Blavatsky, yet has been just as influential.
