RE: Do We Need Spiritual Teachers? Or Can We Grow Alone?

The way it works for me is that it isn't either/or. The teacher is always, in my life-experience, many steps ahead, so it isn't as if I become equal in ability. On the other hand I am also always walking 'my own path' for this is my Path and chosen Way. So it isn't one or the other but both 'ways' at the same time: the two are the same for me. There never would arise a point at which I have to decide to 'cut myself loose' to walk the Way alone. In a sense we are always doing that, as no tutor/teacher/Guru/Hierarch can do It for you.

Another thing, while in practice I may not be 'equal in ability' there is always equality of hearts. In fact the only real teacher is a servant to the pupil's best needs.

“In fact the only real teacher is a servant to the pupil's best needs.”

Yes that is so true especially for those starting out on the spiritual pathway, and in serving a fellow traveller’s best needs one shares how one can heal the needs, so that one can raise consciousness and achieve a higher state of being. The teacher is a mere spring board and catalyst for the pupil to find the light within and transmute any darkness. Self development is teaching the soul to fly! Self mastery and spiritual independence is the objective and once this is achieved the best teachers become redundant.

This quote from Omar is also fitting here.

“When the teacher is doing their job properly the student is in awe of themselves not the teacher”.

It is wonderful to see people excel and reunite as colleagues, to be a stepping stone for others so they may walk their own path and share with others what they have learnt on their journey.

I agree Giles

“Following on from that... assuming you have a spiritual teacher, how do you know it is time to move on and walk your own path?”

You are guided by your own soul and spirit.

Do we need a teacher?

Where there is faith, there is love;
Where there is peace there is GOD.
And where there is GOD,
there is no need. (at all)

Leo Tolstoy

What does that mean "Where there is GOD there is no need" it means that what your soul requires is shown to you by GOD, all that is essential to your life and its journey is given to you, it comes to you, there is no need to search. But it takes tremendous trust and complete surrender to your divine self and GOD.

Allowing the Holy Spirit to give to you so that you can stay on track with your soul journey - co-creator's.

Blessings in abundance

Hi Kim, I like your quotes etc...especially the above one. I think that illustrates where many people get it wrong, following the teacher and being in awe of the teacher rather than realising just how wonderful they themselves are, being a mirror of God/Spirit Within.

Exactly Moonfeather, I also agree with Jesus on this one that a teacher cannot teach what they did not learn.

A little more to share here on my perception of the differences.

The Glamour of Knowledge

A person goes into a nice restaurant, the chef prepares the reciepe and makes a delicious meal, it is presented beautifully, the chef serves the platter to the customer at the table and the customer eats the food. Now if the customer liked the meal they might go back again or they might try somewhere else that is more attractive or expensive. Lots of food for thought but yet what is the end result? If they didn’t like the meal the search for a good restaurant goes on. The proprietor knows there is plenty more customers that wish to purchase wisdom because few like to spend the time cooking and cleaning up their own mess.

A Light of Love

Allows you to sit in the arms of GOD’s love so that you know that you are safe, they help you to replace any fear or darkness with love. They are like a hen that keeps the chicks warm and safe until the chick grows and can fend for itself. The hen chases all the demons away due to the evidence of their experience of caring for their young.

When the chick begins to fly the Mother gracefully stands by while she views the bird’s new found freedom. Then comes the day that the bird is ready to leave the nest. The mother watches with joy in her heart, when the bird takes flight and soars through the sky. She now knows that the Holy Spirit will provide everything for this angel of light and dove of peace. Its soft wings gently enfolding everyone until the day when it builds its own nest and the creation cycle begins again.

One gives wisdom the other gives the meaning of salvation. Now the one that shows the way home on the path to peace is the one that bows before the student and is willing to wash their feet, for in their humility they know the power of their own manifestation so they have nothing to prove to anyone else.

Love beyond measure

There is also another way....

From Bethlehem to Calvery – Rites of Passage

These souls chose pre-destination to do it in spiritual independence they live the experience the initiations and rites of passage. They savour temptation, are crucified and persecuted many times before they surrender to GOD and beg for help to remove the pain and suffering of life experience that they chose. Once their own divine plan of soul purification is complete, the Holy Spirit guides them slowly home on the path of peace and oneness. When they seek within and soul search GOD sends the messengers and healers at the appropriate time to help them to heal themselves and achieve wholeness. Sometimes the initiations are the result of ill-health, tragedy or can be a combination of factors.’ Many professional healers have walked this path following in the steps of Jesus as the archetype, and because they know how too suffer they have the ability to show others are how not to suffer. In this example one can understand the term ‘For the Grace of GOD go high’ Those that go through the resurrection have integrated the knowledge gained through experience and their truth can become pearls of wisdom. In their ascension they walk hand in hand with GOD.

You may have other examples to share......

Glory be to GOD
