RE: Astrology, Omar Khayyam, and Yogananda

Dear Venetian

“I disagree that treading the spiritual path for one's own advancement only”

You did not hear me I was specifically writing of karmic debt/fate a subject that you chose to include.

“being spiritual without thought for others, is an impossibility anyway. Such a person wouldn't in fact be spiritual”

Well I have learnt that terms can be used and understood in many ways just like words and poetry, I understand and appreciate your understanding of a spiritual person but not everyone who considers themselves to be spiritual uses the same term of reference as you or I.

“Though it is possible to help humanity without evident interaction: merely embodying Light as a mystic sheds that Light as a healing energy throughout the world.”

I totally agree the more light and love that we are the more light and love permeates group consciousness.

“As a Sufi mystic now famed for his poetry there's not the slightest suggestion here about kundalini being 'forced'”

This is your unfounded supposition not mine. 2+2 does not make six.

“And mystics of all times and places have had practices, or even just a way of daily life, whereby k is risen naturally. That's what it's there for, to rise naturally.”

I totally agree.

“It's good to see you now acknowledge that the poems are not literal.”

I never said they were!

“It's humorous to see that you've gone into astrology so needlessly here”

Well you mentioned your interest in astrology hence the title of your thread.

“Khayyam was saying that the astrological configurations have no power in and of themselves - they are 'impotent' in an ultimate sense, since the God within us is the only real Mover and can overcome any 'prediction'.

I totally agree with you, when one either self realises of accepts the GOD within and its power nothing in the universe has power over it or them.

“it's pointless”

Well IMHE nothing in the universe is pointless all as a reason for being, GOD is the PERFECT architect.

Dear All

I just had some wonderful insight given hence why I came into post, 'some would say that if there is no judgement then there is no karmic debt, well when you all stopping judging yourselves on the earth plane you will stop judging yourselves when you come here. As above so below........

Awesome and made me smile......how cool is that!

Love beyond measure

RE: Astrology, Omar Khayyam, and Yogananda

Having just spent six months on a comparative religion forum I am really into comparative studies so as the subject here is really about how we can impact on our lives and astrology etc I am sharing these lovely quotes that Judy/Principle posted in the religon forum on the JOB thread.

http://www.biblegateway.com/versions/index.php?action=getVersionInfo&vid=8#books

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth? (Job 38:31-33 King James Version)

31 "Can you bind the beautiful Pleiades?
Can you loose the cords of Orion?
32 Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons
or lead out the Bear with its cubs?
33 Do you know the laws of the heavens?
Can you set up God's dominion over the earth?
(New International Version)

31Can you bind the chains of [the cluster of stars called] Pleiades, or loose the cords of [the constellation] Orion?
32Can you lead forth the signs of the zodiac in their season? Or can you guide [the stars of] the Bear with her young?
33Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule upon the earth?
Amplified Bible

and to continue after verse 33:

33Do you know the first thing about the sky's constellations
and how they affect things on Earth?
34"Can you get the attention of the clouds,
and commission a shower of rain?
35Can you take charge of the lightning bolts
and have them report to you for orders?

being love

Dear ones
Have just been speed reading this thread - hope to be able to come back to it later. The one thing I would say - and I'm a bit behind with this - is that 'gin' surely means 'trap'. (It's what one used to catch rabbits with.) Thus it makes perfect sense when paired with 'pitfalls'. thank you for such interesting posts.
Love as ever

RE: Astrology, Omar Khayyam, and Yogananda

The very first sage that engaged with Yogananda when he began his spiritual journey gave him this message; “God is simple. Everything else is complex”. His interpretations of Omar’s poetry makes one question whether he really integrated this teaching.

Although Yogananda had many earthly teachers the one that shaped his life the most was Sri Yukteswar. He was a stern and pragmatic teacher, he dismissed the traditional Indian methods for attaining enlightenment through hermit type solitude by pointing out that “Wisdom is better sought from a man of realisation then from an inert mountain”.

Sri Yukteswar is a man after my own heart.

Blessings in abundance

RE: Astrology, Omar Khayyam, and Yogananda

Sri Yukteswar was an advanced and respected astrologer. He believed that the stars did affect us, but we could learn to work with them. Knowing, from Yogananda's chart, that he would have a serious illness in the near future, he made him wear an armlet of gold, silver and copper plus another one of lead and silver to weaken any negative electromagnetic influences. Yogananda became very ill but it didn't last long, thanks to these precautions. Yogananda "respected" the stars' influence but said ultimately he trusted in God, even as he continued to wear these armlets in remembrance of his guru. I had a friend make me a bracelet of gold, silver and copper beads as a precaution myself and I never take it off. Better to be safe than sorry!

This line of gurus has said that kriya yoga can erase many lifetimes of negative karma and also overcome astrological influences. There is a kriya initiation in London on May 14, I believe. www.kriya.org
