Hi everyone - I am due to go on holiday in 3weeks and my period is due on the day I go. Has anyone taken any tablets from their GP that candelay theirperiod.
I am 47 and not on any conctraceptive pill as my husband had a vasectomy 18 years ago.
RE: Prolonging Your Period
Hi Rose,
Umm...maybe I'm not the best one to answer this, since I think that taking medication to avoid natural events is a no-no, especially when it comes to us women's delicate reproductive systems. I would just let nature take its course.

i think the only thing is the pill am afraid.
RE: Prolonging Your Period
I have had a prescription from my doctor to delay my period whilst on holiday, but it was a good few years ago. I think it's called Norethisterone. Ask your doctor.
RE: Prolonging Your Period
Hiya!
I agree. It was Norethisterone I took a few years ago too! I believe it's a hormone and it stops bleeding. I took it as I suffer from PCOS and had been bleeding continually for about four months! It worked.....
Have a good holiday!!!

RE: Prolonging Your Period
Hi Rose,
I think I'd have to endorse what Patsy said- I'd think very carefully about taking a drug to stop a natural process just because it's an inconvenience to you for one week out of 52.
I agree that maybe it might not be the best time for a period, but taking a drug to stifle a complex and natural cycle kinda undermines your body's consciousness. If you had to go to all the effort right now to make all the things currently going on in your body- like breathing, digestion, respiration, cell growth and re-generation, circulation andhormone balance- ALL while trying to maintain homeostasisthen I think maybea weeksholiday wouldn't seem like such a bigbarrier.
Also, you can't expect to take a drug which isstopping the body from releasing the relevant hormones not to have repurcussions. The body's always trying to mainatain a balance and when something comes along that stops it from doing what it does best then it finds a way to compensate.
Just my opinion....
RE: Prolonging Your Period
Hi,
I have had the same problem - go to your GP they give you tablets to hold off your period for a few weeks.
