I am 48 ys old and two years ago started to miss periods then I would start to bleed on a three day cycle for up to 6 weeks at a time. The first two days were very light then one day normal with small clots bleeding.
I never go aneamic but did see gyny who did all the tests D&C, hysteroscopy, biopsy and ultrasound and everything normal. I did not want to go on hormones due to family history of breast cancer and told I could either have hysterectomy or live with it as it was just unbalanced hormones.
I had 6 mnths normal then back to up to 4 months missed periods then the the endless three day cycle bleeding - at moment I'm on day 38 of this!
I had ultrasound about a month before this last bleed started and all was normal.
I am due to have blood tests to make sure not aneamic and will ask to go back to gyny partly because I will feel happier having tests again to rule out anything other than hormones but also to discuss what to do.
I really don't want to have hysterectomy as I have other health problems that would make this major.

I am going through the same thing at 52 and it can cause you to worry a lot. Have you asked your doctor for Tranexamic acid to slow the bleeding? There are also some herbal remedies such as Horsetail, Red Raspberry Leaf, etc., that you might want to check out. Remember many of us are going through the same thing and not to get so worried.

thanks lulu - its always good to know you are not alone and that others are experiencing same problems if that doens't sound harsh. I tried tranexamic acid last time and although it reduces the bleeding it does not stop it and you can only take it for a few days as its a bit risky for longer so was useful when I had my one flooding period but not for this endless daily bleeding that is not very heavy. I also saw a medical herbalist and took the tincture for months but didn't seem to help at time but maybe its worth trying again.

Hi, whilst it's natural for there to be some 'ups and downs' during the menopause, I firmly believe you need not suffer to this extent.
There are other things to try- acupuncture, homeopathy, reflexology, these all help to rebalance hormonal states, for example.
Also, as the hormonal system is so complicated and affected greatly by stress, you could think about changing some aspects of your life if you can. Also, have a look at the foods you're eating (and drinking); they can have a big affect. Read up on it, or use the net.....Hope you find the right sort of support. Hom

Saw a medical herbalist today and she has given me some high strength wild yam cream to use - here in UK we do not have access without prescription to natural progesterone cream you do in US but she has had lots of success with the wild yam cream as your natural prog cream is derived from wild yam anyway. So will start using it tomorrow for 25 days with 5 days off - she said it doens't work as fast as the presc cream but most people do benefit.
I am also going back to GP to ask to go back to gyny so that I can have whatever test I need to be sure its only wonky hormones and not a womb lining problem.
Medical herbalist also recommended reducing my dairy intake to least I can bear ( I cannot drink tea without milk) as high dairy intake increases estrogen levels and also to eat cruciferous veggies every other day but only cooked ones as I have underactive thryoid and am on meds for it so don't want to make it worse.
