Is this the menopause??

Hi,

I am hoping that someone out there can tell me whether I am going mad, or perhaps it is the onset of the menopause......

Just over 6 years ago I had a hysterectomy and was left with one ovary to keep me ticking over, ever since I have had all the symptoms of PMT (swollen, painfull breasts, mood swings attacks and then tiredness) without the bleeds. However these symptoms have never been regular, sometimes would last 2-3 weeks with a gap in between and then for a couple of days - very erratic!!

I now haven't had the breast problem for about 6 months, but recently can swing from being overjoyed with life :Dand then to extremely tearful :(. I am alsovery tired and can forget what I am talking about mid sentence - very awkward when you are a teacher and addressing the class!!I have just had two days off work, which is unknown for me, and it was a case of 'I just couldn't be fussed with it', I did feel sick onand off and had a headache but I would normally still push myself into work! This is not me and I don't understand it??

Can anyone enlighten me as to whether this could be the menopause or am I just a bit twitty (or even twitchy) at the moment?

Hi crabapple

I'm surprised you have no replies here as yet. I wouldn't like to say any more than 'it could be', as I think the best thing would be to discuss this with your GP. If necessary, you could ask to be referred for a gynae consultation.

I would suggest you ring up and make an appointment, and I hope you soon feel better anyway.

RE: Is this the menopause??

[sm=nature-smiley-008.gif]Hi I'm in my 50's and menopausal, luckily I haven't suffered as much as some people can with various things like mood swings etc. That I think is one of the main things to realise, that everyone of us will be different and react differently at this time. As you have also had surgery and that may well be affecting you, then I also think you should have a quick word with either your GP or pratice nurse. Half of the problem is not always realising what will 'hit us' at this time. Touch woodI haven't had night sweats and the hot flushes aren't too bad. Hopefully it will continue this way! If it is the menopause then I hope it won't be too bad for you either.

RE: Is this the menopause??

Poor you! It sounds as though you might be.
I was told I was perimenopausal about 5 years ago by a holistic practitioner who looked at my upper lip (some thin lines -bit like the rest of my face) and the outside of my eyebrows (thinning - but then they have never been very fulsome)!
I teach classes mainly to ladies of a certain age, who seem to have their own microclimates. I have noticed that the ones who cope best with the least symptoms are the ones who do the most exercise.
I hope you get something sorted out soon as there is nothing worse than not knowing what the problem is - it makes you feel so out of control, and that's stressful.
Good luck,
Sharon

RE: Is this the menopause??

Hi,

Thank you for your replies, just thought I would make an update. I haven't been to the doctor to check if it is the menopause, but am now virtually positive as I keep getting these incredible moments of face burning and sweats.....[:@], think they call them hot flushes!! Now that these have started I feel happier in myself as I know there is a reason when I get the mood swings.

Having said that, I am really pleased with myself today.....my 23 year old daughter moved out to live with her boyfriend, I thought I would find it really difficult and want to break down all the time, but........I was fine. Got that heavy heart feeling and a bit of prickling in the old eyes occasionally but ...hey that wasn't too bad.:) I just kept reminding myself how happy she is and then went round there for a cuppa.

Menopause......what menopause!!

RE: Is this the menopause??

Hi Crabapple, you sound pretty menopausal to me.
All your symptoms fit the regular (peri)menopausal symptoms.

As far as I have heard going mad=menopause[&:]
