is broodiness so strong that a woman wants to run off with your baby or is it that extra look at the baby page in argos-when you dont have a baby to buy for?

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

Hmm good question, but afraid i dont have an answer. [&:]
I know it is different for every women, i think you just know when you are broody and whether this is just a feeling that will pass or if this is the real thing.

Are we talking about YOU feeling broody or just a question in general here?

I believe everyone feels broody at some point.

For example, im a childcare worker and many times i find myself feeding the babies or giving them cuddles and thinking aww i could just take you home with me (obviously not really lol but u know what i mean!!) But then at 5pm i am very glad to get out that door and go home to my own little life...child free.;)

Im only going to be 19 this year and in my opinion fa too young for a child, not to mention the cost of them and so on [>:].. plus the fact that im glad to leave at home time tells me having a child just now isn't for me and its just 'passing broodyness':)

As for the looking in catalogues, i think everyone is a little guilty of that lol babies are so small and needy 🙂 they depend on you for everything, you are their only carer and all they know, sometimes i think we just like the feeling of being needed and loving and receiving unconditional love. With babies no matter what you do, they love you and no matter how many mistakes you make they dont care.:D

Hope to hear back from you

Fiona

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

I often wonder if feeling broody means we SHOULD have a baby, because our body is ready, you know like a 'sign', or if it is just a natural feeling to want to love and nurture, or create, which means it doesn't have to be a baby we love and nurture, it could be a project, animal etc
I know having a baby made me feel like a woman, like I have been through a rite of passage and now I was an empowered woman, I had been through it all, inc labour (for too many hours to care to remember!) and there was something wonderful as a result.
Saying that, my second was not so empowering, as i had complications that i won't start on 😉

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

Oooh MC you're a hard one!!;)

Personally, I started to get broody shortly after I hit 30 (think my biological clock had something to do with it) - I was married, settled and it just felt like the right thing to do. I wanted to have a baby more than anything and every waking minute was consumed with baby thoughts - all my friends/family had babies and I felt I was ready to have one too.

So, I had my son and I was soooooooo not ready!!! His first year was a nightmare and I felt like the worst mum in the world. Although I loved him, I resented him and felt that he had ruined my life which was a very hard thing to deal with.

Now I've sort of "grown into" being a mum I wouldn't be without him, he's the light of my life and when life gets bad, he keeps me strong.

So, the moral of my story is...although you may feel broody, make sure you're a million per cent ready before you take the plunge.

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

I just wonder if we are ever trully READY!
How can we be ready for this little thing that feeds, cries, poos and cries some more 24 hrs a day, demanding every second of our time, every ounce of our energy, puts pressure on existing family relationships, friendships and social life (NB social life soon becomes a fading memory [&:]), as we learn the real meaning of the phrase 'I am soooooooo tired' :D:D:D

Then, just when we think we have it sussed, and we are really ready cos we know what it will be like, we do it again to find out it is even harder cos now you think you know so much but it doesn't apply to THIS baby, plus there is still the first baby to look after, whether baby/toddler/school age 😮

Pheww, i am exhausted thinking about it all!

Btw, i think every mum believes themselves to be the worst mum ever, but actually I AM 😉

See now how can that be fun and why put yourself theough that? Plus all the pain of birth anyway. YUCK!

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

Ohhh Noooo, I didn't mean to make it sound so bad 😀

I love my children so much and could go on all day about how wonderful it is having babies..but I know that's NOT what you wanna hear [8D]

In the context of broodiness though, I do think that nothing will put you off! If it is something you really want to do, like any desire,a few sleepless nights won't put you off.

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

I have three children and each one I was gripped with unrelenting 'broody-ness'.
It was like I was possessed, all I could think about was being pregnant. And as soon as I had my first baby I wanted another, within six weeks I fell pregnant again but miscarried, probably for the best looking back now. But I will never forget that feeling, it was all consuming.
But now I have three it seems to have passed, probably due to a drug free last delivery and many vivid memories of pain.......I just can't seem to bring myself to go there again.
But if it wasn't for the last one being pain-full then I am sure mother nature would kick in again and I would be pregnant for the rest of my child rearing days.
However common sense seems to prevail now and I think I would be able to control the urge, although I do go through periods of dreaming about being pregnant and holding a 'fresh' baby.

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

Hi Parkinson, couldn't you just borrow a 'fresh' baby to hold for a little while?;):D

I agree Deva - when I was going through the sleepless nights, teething, temperatures, screaming, puking etc. I just thought I was going to go mad but looking back now it's all over, I don't remember it actually being that bad.

Saying that, I am very happy with my one child and I won't be having anymore!!

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

Hi Tabaluga,

I know of all the horror stories associated with having a baby - labour pains, sleepless nights, nappies and so on. What I want to say is that every child is different, and although others will have undergone all the physical demands that having a baby brings, nothing, but nothing, compares to holding your own child for the first time. A mother relates to it whilst still in the womb, and when it is born, she 'knows' it already. Yes it does cry a lot, but how else would it communicate with mum and dad? We were all babies once, and we all gave our mums hell! I have only one child and suffered two miscarriages. I would do it all again tomorrow if I could, and I am 43 years old.

Broodyness - when the desire for a baby is very strong. It demonstrates that you have a strong maternal instinct. This also manifests itself in other ways, like making an extraordinary fuss of your husband and animals. You are only human!

Blessings, Pats.
🙂

RE: how do you know when you are broody??

ok. Now im gonna give u the other side of having a child!!!

Meg has been the perfect baby/little girl ANY mother could wish for (yes I know, u can start hating me ...now!!!!!!)

I put her in her own bedroom by the time she was about 6 days old.
From the time I brought her home she only used to get up once in the night, that was for her night feed. I used to feed her then put her in the cot (in her moses basket ) and she just used to go straight back to sleep!
By the time she was 3 WEEKS old-=she was sleeping all through the night.

from the time she could babble a few words together, about 9 months, she used to ASK ME to go to bed!!!
Up until she was about 14 months old she used to sleep like a baby: get up at 7ish, breakfast , little play, 'mommybed!!!!'
Up at dinner time, play 'mommybed!'
Up at t time , play 'mommy bed!!!!!'
Then sleep all night for approx 12 hours!!!!!!!

Now she is six and she still isnt an ounce of trouble. Shes a beauty.

NEVER had a tantrum in the supermarket or been rude to anyone!!!

Just hope I havent got it all to come when she hits her teens!!!![&:]
Tx
