After pregnancy, my wife has had a very tough and stressful time even though I have tried my best to make things easy for her. Unfortunately, there is only so much I can do after 6pm when I get back home from work to help her out.

Because she is constantly caring for our child who was born with a disability, my wife does not sleep properly any more, she does not eat properly, and my constant nagging, trying to get her to at least eat properly, and rest, just makes her angry at me.

She recently went to the doctor who said that because of all this stress, your body can not handle too much physical work, as her muscles keep ripping causing the areas to inflame and is incredibility painful.

So I was wondering, how does she get physically and mentally healthy again? I understand that she needs to rest, and eat properly, which she is not doing, but what else can be done?

Hi Caster

Sorry to hear this ... a baby should be a joy and unfortunately, your and your wife's joy is mixed.

One thing you can do to help is to cook when you get home - it's a whole lot easier to eat something if you haven't had think about what to eat, shop and then cook it, particularly when stressed. You can find videos on healthy, quick and easy meals for weekdays here at the telegraph food and lifestyle section. 5 and ten minute recipes from bag to table with fresh ingredients.

Good luck, Caster ... I know it's not easy and hope this helps.

Hi Caster

I do not have any advice but just want to say hope it gets better for both of you soon and it helps to share like you did will be thinking of you and your family. I admire the way you understand what nyou wife is going through. Best of Luck. Is there no one that can help with the baby for a while to give you both a bit of rest.

hi caster

Firstly - congratulations on the new addition to your family.

Would it be useful to you to organise some TLC and extra support ?

Have you considered some sort of Holistic therapy for example massage, reflexology or Indian Head Massage.

These therapies work on so many levels (physical. mental. energetic) and could really help de-stress, re-energise and create some head space for you both.

Many therapists are mobile so can visit the house if baby sitting is an issue - however just getting away from the home and having some personal attention has a theraputic value of it's own for many people.

It's wonderful that you care so much about your family that you have posted your question, make sure you remember yourself and your needs so if your wife chooses not to accept help right now make sure you get on and get some support for yourself regardless.

wishing you all a magnificent future

love Lou xxx
